Basicly you played the vannila, you played with some mods but after some digging you found something that you werent really sure that was possible to be modded and shit, it all changed after that.

Well, now I have been wanting to play some multiplayer games with bots, even made a thread about it recently, something that wouldnt really feel that much like a multiplayer game though (AI just roaming around the map looking for something to kill). I thought about the multiplayer from the Brothers in Arms games and the multiplayer from Freedom Fighters (it was so good) but in all of those cases there was still the need to have a player commanding the squad AI.

So after some digging I found out that there was this mod for Battlefield 2 called ESAI wich basicly messed around with the Commander AI (the entity that gives orders to attack, defend, etc). The vannila version was very basic so in the end all you had was a bunch of dudes running straight to the flags with no sense of coordination while now if you decide to capture an enemy flag there is a very big chance that a squad (up to 6 soldiers) will come in to defend that place and for attacks its can go up to 3 squads attacking at the same time so you actually see a convoy progressing through the road with the clear objective of capturing a flag.

Its coordinated as fuck, you see squads moving together and you barely see anyone moving off the grid alone, the AI itself still is what you get in BF2 (it isnt going to start to use small cover with this) but overall it really pushes forward the idea of a singleplayer mode that has an open feel to it instead of just guys doing random shit.

To be honest to have that in the game is quite a huge game changer to what to expect when playing offline.

Has any mod out there really suprised you like this?

Anyone remember Brutal Doom? Well, a mod for that mod came out recently that brings in around fifty different weapons. To balance this out, the zombies can also have more weapons. I fought zombies packing rocket launchers in the first level! Also, the guns are off to the side, instead of in the middle of the screen like how Doom normally is. The only real issue is that it's somehow screwing up save files. So, if you die once, you've gotta start all over again.

Hi all.

In the BF2 modding world I just go by 'Void'. Anyway, I'm the author of ESAI, the BF2 AI mod that was mentioned by the OP.

I'm glad it was found to help the game out; that's what most of my beta testers do say too.

@josenlopes:

Sorry you had to dig around to find my work; but I'm glad you did find it. About this:

Its coordinated as fuck, you see squads moving together and you barely see anyone moving off the grid alone, the AI itself still is what you get in BF2 (it isnt going to start to use small cover with this) but overall it really pushes forward the idea of a singleplayer mode that has an open feel to it instead of just guys doing random shit.
Nice compliment, and thanks. Your experience mirrors that of all my testers as well as most of my end users. Hope ESAI will keep you playing BF2 a lot longer.

To make my mod easier for people to find I will post some direct download links (from BFSP, not shitty file share services).

Here is the standard version: http://www.battlefieldsingleplayer.com/void/ESAI/ESAI-4.2-Public.zip

Here is a beta that turned into an infantry only map version: http://www.battlefieldsingleplayer.com/void/ESAI/Latest/ESAI_Infantry_Version.rar

And I recently adapted ESAI for Battlefield 2142: http://www.battlefieldsingleplayer.com/void/ESAI/Latest/ESAI_2142.rar

Take care guys,

-V

The open cities mod for Skyrim was amazing, completely removing the load stage for cities, so you could run in and out to your hearts content.

It did have the occasional bug, and halfway through making the mod the creator decided to stick Oblivion gates in every city for no real reason, then went a bit crazy when everyone asked him to remove it and stopped upgrading the mod, but apart from that it is awesome.

Also I'm currently waiting for Minecraft mods for 1.7.2 (Rei's minimap, Optifine, Extra ore mods etc.) There doesn't seem to be any mod updates for 1.7.2 yet, does anyone know what standard protocol is for after a minecraft update (new player - this is my first one)

A friend and I tried a weeping angel Minecraft mod for a laugh even though we both think the things are genuinely terrifying. We load the mod and there are hundreds of weeping angels around and at first that totally took away from the atmosphere since they reminded me more of sheep than anything scary. We played around a little bit and those things are unsettling even in Minecraft. I'd be doing something with only a few of them in front of me and turn around to find a half dozen more that crept up on me. In general, every time I'd turn around I find one right up in my face that wasn't there a second ago. Being trapped in a building with those things swarming around is terrifying.
