why wouldn't they try to make it as close to the original as possible? Its written in Java for petes sake. How hard could it be?
Minecraft can be a massive resource hog.
When you start tinkering with complicated redstone machinery and what not, it can put a fair bit of strain on RAM as well as CPU.
Not to mention how huge the save files can get.
How much storage is in your phone? I mean I have a world that's over 2 GB in size, and I'm sure there are some out there that are much larger.
Even so, they could dial back the effects and even go back to the days of the limited mine craft world, possibly make the map into a grid and have loading screens. clearly it would be a change but they could still have it close to PC quality.
They still won't have days and nights, because the majority of android phones couldn't handle a lighting engine.

Just downloaded the free demo. The game may work better on a tablet but the screen on a phone seems too small to play the game on, and the controls are awkward. Not a fan of this game in this form. Definitely should stick to PC.

Given how much time you may intend to sink into it, is a fully functional version of Minecraft on your phone really what you want?
Why yes, yes it is.
This, Minecraft was OK, but the experience would be infinitely improved if it could be done on a toilet.

Next time they should really try to make as full a port as they can for the iOS. I wouldn't mind paying a little more for it.

Thankfully I didn't pay for it this time, all the reviews I read said that it was a cheap knock-off.

Bethesda is dumb because they let bugs stay in if their funny. Notch thinks their good [I may be wrong] so its easier to better the game.
what does this even mean
Its better for the community to find a bug then it is for the developers to know about it and let it stay in the game. Notch let certain glitches, such as the booster tracks, stay in the game because people were using it creatively, which is the entire point of the game.

Notch isn't stupid for letting the community use a glitch for a good thing, Bethesda is stupid because it lets glitches stay if their funny.

So, is Mojang's perpetual business plan "release unfinished game, get people to buy it, and then update it later"?

I mean it makes sense as an indy developer, but after you're swimming in cash I think you should take the time to complete a game before you send it to market.
I'd like to point out that the Pocket edition is not the PC edition. I'd also like to point out that Minecraft is in a 'finished' state. The game was already released to the public, what were they going to do? Freaking say that THATS all your getting until this date? I mean, its like releasing a demo then removing it if its helping your game, what do you gain? You gain nothing except angry letters from fans.

The problem is that pocket edition wasn't the fully functioning Minecraft on a phone like we were promised, it was just Creative mode and even then not a fully functioning creative mode at that.

Did you just see Mojang and Minecraft and decide to write the comment or do you understand that your not making it clear who your attacking? Mojang for being stupid or the game for not being what it was supposed to be on the phone.

Then it shouldn't be given Adventure mode, since theres no fun in exploring the same 10 ft. You see, any fixes now are already too late. Since they released a un-finished port of their own game they now must face the fact that people didn't buy it and move on.

While I agree that the ability to choose a minecraft size and have a loading screen might better performance, I don't see any reason why the Pocket Edition should even be edited, it should just be called Minecraft Creative Pocket Edition and move on.

doesnt say much. java can be very easy or very complicated. its all up to the programmer. while stuff like flash can only be easy (and limited) with java you can do A LOT, but it can also get A LOT complicated. i got no idea how complicated minecraft is (i dont play it), so its not much.

I'm rather proud to state the following three facts:

1: I don't have a Facebook account, never will.

2: I don't have a Twitter account, never will.

3: I've never played Minecraft, never will.

Granted being proud of such things is, itself, not something to be proud of. :p
That makes two of us :)

IPhone games are written in a proprietary language (XCode) I think, so it's not like you can just ctrl-c ctrl-v. Android games probably pose a similar problem.
It depends. Most iOS apps are written in Objective C, however XCode does support C++ as well. So a lot of the same code used on an Android version could be transplanted into the iOS version, game logic, memory handling, that sort of thing. C++ is the standard cross-platform language, I wish they'd used C++ in the first place instead of Java.

Yeah I originally said some form of C, but looking up the SDK led me to believe it was XCode, but thanks for setting me straight! Also, I love being corrected by more knowledgeable people, 'cause learning is fun.

if you think that mojang is in any form an example of a well-run company then hahahahahahaha
I never said that it was well run, i said that is how a company should act, they saw the out cry for more and answered it. I can't tell you how many times I've seen glitches errors and other stuff just looked and by a company. Not that a company should fold like a lawn chair but talking back and forth to your consumers as if they were more than dollar signs with voices is always a plus.
