Molydeux Condemns Microsoft's Cubist Heresy

Peter Molyneux's Twitter twin takes a swing at Microsoft with a new cube video.

When Peter Molyneux left Microsoft he did so on good terms, but felt that Microsoft's corporate environment was smothering him creatively. He even went so far as to call Microsoft a his second [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/116737-Peter-Molyneux-Calls-Microsoft-a-Creative-Padded-Cell ], decrying Microsoft's interference with his grand design.

Nobody but Molyneux knows what's in Molyneux's Curiosity Cube; it's just the first of 22 experiments [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/118403-Peter-Molyneux-Explains-His-Crazy-Curiosity-Cube] that he has in mind. Chip away at it enough times - 60 million bits need to be hacked off - and the truth, whatever it may be, is revealed. It's meant to be a collaborative project, to see whether curiosity alone will keep the player base cutting away. Molydeux has now revealed to the world that Microsoft originally had other ideas for the project.

"This is a rough video edit proposed by [Microsoft's] marketing team," says Molydeux. "Not only were they showing my creation as it was not intended, but they were also trying to change the actual game design. I cannot forgive them for this." Everything from Facebook to Twitter to customizable skins gets a knock in this jarring spoof of a Microsoft marketing campaign. "Featuring the voice of 50 Cent," the video proposes; doing what, you have to wonder, and the answer is nobody knows. Probably not even Molydeux, and he's the one who put this spoof together.

It's beginning to look as though it not only has to live up to Molyneux's dream, but also Molydeux's hype. Will it? The release is August 22nd; we'll find out then, one way or the other.

YOUR LACK OF ACCEPTING FOUR DAY ONE ROTATION CUBE IS DAMNED HERESY LYING TEACHERS QUEERS.

OT: I can totally see Microsoft doing that if they had been convinced to release Curiosity. Molydeux is awesome for making the video, though.

I'm really starting to think we need to capitalize the D in Molydeux. Because any article about both Molyneux and Molydeux instantly becomes a ***** to skim.

Remember guys, you're wasting your money on something that will be completely irrelevant and nowhere near as important as Molyneux thinks it will be. That's not to say that there's not a little bit of me that is curious. It's just overridden by the skepticism towards this man's "project" and I see it as nothing more than a money making scheme, despite his denial of such.

To be fair, he claims that it is an "experiment", and the results of it would be very pertinent to future game design.

And if anyone actually buys the tens-of-thousands priced pickaxe, then quite frankly, they deserve to lose that money.

Yeaaaah. I think we'd best stop before anyone else coming into the thread starts losing SAN points.

See, I cannot see it as such. He's doing a project based entirely on knowledge we already have. The question is basically "How curious are people?" from what I can tell. The only answer to that is "incredibly curious". I can't see what other results such an "experiment" could create.

Meh, they have dozens of them. So long as they don't click the link, they'll be safe.

Well, if no one buys the ultra-pickaxe, then the answer is "not as curious as we might hope".

I don't understand these "news". Please correct me if I am wrong, but isn't MolyDeux not Molyneux? S/He does not have any Microsoft experience. Has not developed games. And is just an internet spoof?

Yeah, the video is a "cool" parody, but aren't we getting news updates from a non-entity?

I do get my fair share opinions off the internet, but I usually get them from people who have a real face, such as Ben Croshaw or Bob Chipman, not just their alter-egos.

Molydeux is a parody of Molyneux.

We have a story on their newest parody video because why not.

I suspect that some enterprising player will make a click-bot for Molyneux's box that will open it in about an hour, dependent entirely on processor speed to rotate the cube, click it etc. Then a cenobyte will reach through the screen and rip out that gamer's soul.

Just a thought, but when im running experiments with participants, they usually only get the broad, "This is an experiment over socialization in the classroom"... or something or other. They dont get to know the nit pick until the experiment is over.

Another point is that there most likely hasn't been much, if any, research over curiosity in video games, internet influence in the game, and those such things. More research is good research. Its more than just, "Are you curious enough to keep going."

Then again, I have to do this stuff on a daily basis now adays, so eh.

EDIT: Also, just because its 'common sense' that we know something, it doesnt mean we do. Common sense is a big no no in research.

No problems with that!

Remember, <link=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.383386-What-We-Do-on-Fridays>this was their most popular "story" for a while.

LOL on the link and point made!

For me, it is the frivolity of it all: man falls off chair, milk spilled on the table, news at 11! That kind of nothingness being reported as news just gets to me. If it is presented as entertainment (like the Ehrmagerd meme) I have a different stance on it than if it is presudo-news. After all, this article is in the Escapist's "News Room".

Anyway, not trying to push my opinion, I just don't see this as industry news and it should be reported someplace else (do we have a "Funny Room"?)

Hey, we have to have something to distract us from the crushing depression that is the reality of this industry.
