I have to say, this is fucking genius.

I bet someone like Notch will buy it though.
naw, he's gonna stick with his diamond pickaxe....... lol

But in all seriousness, there have been people that have dropped thousands on mobile and tablet micro transactions, http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/107662-Eight-Year-Old-Girl-Blows-1400-on-Smurfberries

so I wouldn't put it past anyone....... ( except me because I have never had 77k in my life.)

The most interesting thing will not be whether or not someone will buy the diamond chisel - I think that's inevitable, if the cube takes long enough to open. What will be a decent test is how long after opening the object that it takes the winner to disclose to the world what he or she has won.

Can you imagine the buildup of tension if they hold fire from announcing this for a week or two?

Its a good idea up to the point where three weeks in a team of hackers just breaks into the cube anyway, or copies the coding for the diamond chisel and there winds up being about a million of the things. Other than that though it would be interesting to see if someone on the planet has enough disposable income that they can spend $77, 838 on a complex series of ones and zeroes, but I don't think Bruce Wayne would waste money on a video game.

I can see where this is going. Crazy rich guy/ crazy community team up to buy this ---> announcement of Molyneux's next game is in it ---> in Molyneux's next game treasure chests will cost real money to open (more if they look fancier), because he is now convinced that consumers are just THAT retarded. Fuck this guy AND his game.

Whatever is inside the cube it is probably not likely to be worth £50,000.

Methinks this is less of an experiment and more of an evil scheme.

All i Can honestly say to that at the moment is

"What's in the box, Peter, What's in the box!?"
Whatever it is, it's over-hyped.
Of course it's going to be over-hyped, It's Peter Molyneux, the man seems to run off it for better or worse.

I know I won't be chipping in to find out!
HEYOOO

If I was rich (Like billionaire rich) I would probably go for it, but unless one of my fantasies manages to take over as my real life, I'll just pass this on up

....what?

"It's an experiment! We're explorers in the mind of humanityyyyyyyyeah!"
*counts money*

-is pretty much all I heard.

I've actually always enjoyed the Fable games and most of PM's stuff in general so it hurts to see this honestly.

Yeah, or you could find out on youtube approx. 40 minutes after the game ends when the winner uploads it.

To be fair, though, if i was massively rich i'd buy the diamond pickaxe, win the game thing and then tell everyone i know exactly what was in the cube.
And then never reveal it.

HOLY COW. They actually beat the Railworks DLC list, a feat I thought was impossible.

Obviously, the box will be revealed to contain our own universe. Or more likely the most recent photo from NASA of the known universe, as well as a small presentation where Molyneux talks about how great curiosity is and I eat my own hat in rage.

The person I imagine to buy the diamond pickax is either a rich idiot or some kind of supervillain who will make sure that only he knows what's inside the box and taunt the world with that info.

So either Bruce Wayne or the Joker, really.

Okay, first impression when I saw this thread, someone's doing that SmashLovesTitanQuest thing from the Mass Effect Three 'DLC' (It was merch, but it came with DLC on the side) and just grandstanding it.
Second impression was that this is a very clever experiment and I would love to see it in action.

So, let's be entirely clear about this. Molyneux's going to conduct a series of 'social experiments' then use these results to release an overly-ambitious, disappointing, unfinished and broken game? Sorry Pete, but as much as I like you, you've exhausted my faith in you.

So, in other words, Curiosity is better than the entire Fable IP.

Also, you know who is probably watching how this shapes up with bated breath?
