Mom-friendly 'pretty' rpg

Well, first off let me laugh some more, at what I thought this would be. When I read "Mom-friendly RPG" I thought of Duke Nukem and RPG to stand in for Rocket Propelled Grenade. I though of cute pictures of customizable weapons .

On topic how about WoW. It's not complicated, it has lots of cute stuff, nice landscapes and lots of them. Had a female friend who played and she didn't fight much. She would let her pet protect her, while she was picking herbs (that look like flowers). She was also a tailor and she hunted down some interesting recipes for night gowns and other pretty dresses. She was a Hunter class, so she had a pet to fight instead of her and was one more cute thing, she had a huge kitty basically. Also if you are not that keen on destruction, you can take a healing role and "help" people.

Maybe DDO? There are some things you can't take for granted in DDO that you can in WoW, but I wouldn't really call it difficult.

Sudeki. Sure its a little old but fukkit, its pretty damn good.
No customisation but who cares. Its a nice JPRG thats actually kinda violent if I remember correctly.

Btw saying "mom friendly" makes people think shit like Paper Mario but if she likes Ice and Fire then she could handle shit like Manhunt no problem.

Oh and if she can tolerate the bog standard JPRG combat system then get her to play Mark Leung just because that is one of the greatest JRPGs of our time.

I'll have you know good man Paper Mario is not shit, it's one if the most fun rpgs one can play.
OT: I'd start with Fable or Oblivion.

It's still possible in RP and normal servers as well. If you somehow manage to flag yourself and not be able to get away properly. lol. But it would indeed be far more extreme (and easily done) on PVP servers. I remember trying to level on a PVP server when it was still 60 cap.

The only RPG I've ever seen a Mom get into was Kingdom Hearts. It actually seems specifically designed for it. You've got your non threatening familiar Disney characters and your relatively simple (at first) storyline and then, before you know it, not only have you been introduced to a bunch of Final Fantasy characters, but you're wrapped up in this gigantic conspiracy with crazy plots and weird story minutia as deep as you're willing to go. And it's all weirdly dark for a Disney game which makes it seem even darker than it actually is...

The only problem with it is that it doesn't hit your third condition. There isn't really any character customization, at least not visually.

It handles sex in a mature, thoughtful, responsible way unlike 99.999% of games out there but that does NOT make it "not sex heavy". Pole dancer boss that makes squishing sounds? Check. Level set in a weirdly huge strip club? Check. Level set in a weirdly huge bath house? Check. Sidequest that (can) involve having sex with a night shift nurse? oh my check.

Great game. Probably not a game I would show to my mother. Unless I could be reasonably sure she'd play far enough to get the underlying meaning. Which means not a great FIRST rpg.

My mom is interested into taking up some gaming. She is a bit of a fantasy nut (reads different fantasy books, Song of Fire and Ice, etc), and she wants to find a game that she could play.

- Nice landscapes, visuals
- Not too difficult or complex (she gets frustrated when she doesn't understand something right away)
- Fantasy rpg, ability to create and customize a character

Me and my sister were thinking Fable II/III, but if you guys could suggest anything else, it would be nice to give her some options.

EDIT: By mom-friendly, I meant mostly difficulty/complexity of the game. She's not too prudish when it comes to romance/sex/violence!

Perhaps one of the Tales series (Tales of Vesperia for instance)? Not much in the area of character customization, but I personally love the graphic style of those games. It looks and feels a lot like Eternal Sonata, which was already mentioned, and is IMHO also a very good suggestion, esp. for those of us who can enjoy classical music from time to time.

Okami. Not quite an RPG, but it's got the items and the quests and the landscapes.

I'd let my little sister play it. In fact, I'd make my little sister play it.

WOW has addons! Actually built in the game is a quest helper function too. I leveled a warlock but I'll give you the low down of what all the classes are and what I'd recomend.

Paladin/Druid can be healer, fighter, tank(pali's used to be able to tank don't know anymore)
Mage/rogue= fighters
Warlock/hunter= fighter with pets
Deathkinght/warriors= fighter/tank
shaman/Priest= Healer/fighter

The staple female character (the running joke) is Nightelf priest!

Hunters are great because easy to level and you have a little pet with you.
Druids are cool because you can shape shift and be any of the 3 roles.

I love warlocks but they can be complicated.

I heard paladins are fun never done it myself.

Help her setup the interface a little with how to find quests (if it's not already doing it for her). Basically it shows you on the map were to go and you go there!

WoW has ruined marraiges, Careers, Educations, and killed a korean. Or was that starcraft?

Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2. They're not exactly beautiful to look at anymore, but they're passable and both has a million mods and fanmade campaigns for when you're done with the original campaigns. Of which I can only really recommend Hordes Of The Underdark (Nwn1) and Mask Of The Betrayer + Storm Of Zehir (Nwn2).

Sounds like Baldurs Gate 1 + 2 would be great for her as well, if someone can teach her the rules it uses.

Mom-friendly = not too difficult or complex? >.> Oh yeah, because it's well known that we lose IQ points when we get pregnant... *sigh*

As I am myself once again enmeshed in another Oblivion game, I'd suggest one of the Elder Scrolls games (Morrowind is a solid choice as well, but since you're going with not too difficult or complex, Oblivion seems the better choice with its difficulty slider and fast travel). And you can load it up with new meshes and textures to make it even nicer (I never play without the Oblivion Audio and Visual Overhaul [http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=oblivionmods.detail&id=5345] mod). And since it's an open world, she can pretty much start up any quest and only finish the ones she want (because, let's face it, the "Mom factor" is having less time to yourself).

I saw WoW got a few votes, but I'd strongly advise against MMOs. The downside of MMOs is that they imply raiding or long quests which you can't just stop and pick up later. Go with a single player game, it gives you a lot more freedom to pick and choose when to start and when to stop playing.

MMO's like WoW are hardcore games were deep commitment is needed to stand any chance in the game, I don't think that OP's mom is looking for that.
