Hello Escapist, Ive been considering buying Monday Night Combat on Steam. Ive watched gameplay vids on youtube and it looks like hardcore fun.

Only issue is im worried it doesnt have enough players to keep me playing. So i ask the escapist world if their's enough of a community in MNC to justify purchase.

It's fun. Lots of action and the upgrade system is really....broken. Seriously, you upgrade the assassin's cloak and it barely does anything.

Uh...upgrading the cloak does exactly what it says it does.
At level 1, cloak takes a little while to activate and doesn't last very long. Bots and turrets can see through it.
At level 2, the activation time is reduced and duration is improved. Bots and turrets can't see through it any more.
At level 3, the activation time is further reduced and duration is significantly improved. The cloak will now slowly regenerate when the Assassin is standing still, and you get a 100% critical chance for one second if you begin firing shurikens while cloaked.

Those aren't just improvements, they're pretty drastic improvements for each level. I don't know how on Earth you came to think that upgrading cloak isn't helpful.

OT:

I've never had a problem finding a game so far on the PC, it's usually instant. There's definitely an active community, and it's easily worth the price tag.

I'm interested in this too, it looks fun and funny. What I'm wondering about the community is whether they are welcoming to noobs. I'd like to play this but I'm distinctly average at shooters, particularly if I have to run-n-gun rather than sneak-n-snipe. I never played TF2 or any multiplayer shooters, really, although I do pretty well in singleplayer shooters like Crysis. I wanna know if I'm going to be yelled at all the time for not doing better or if people in this game are more easygoing.

Well after hearing it did indeed have a large player-base I purchased it off Steam.

The action is fun a frenzied, you will die, alot, and if you manage to get a kill start celebrating.

The learning curve is ridiculous, you will need several bouts before you get the hang of the classes. Dont worry the players are generally forgiving.

Start out with Gunner or Assault, best classes for noobs.

Quite a few people play it, but I think it might end up being more active on the 360 since that came out first so I assume hardcore players bought it there first.

They had to. It wasn't on Steam until January 24th, 2011. XBLA release date was August 11, 2010.

On Topic. Looks like you did pick it up. Maybe we'll see each other on there. :p
Yikes I didnt realize that it just came out.0_0

Hehe I have noticed people use futuristic type names so henceforth in MNC I shall be know as "Emperor of Man" ^^

Monday Night Combat's awesome. I must admit however that I prefer the Xbox 360 version. Though I usually prefer a mouse and keyboard for games like this, for some reason I just didn't warm to the PC's controls. I tried binding the keys to my preferences, but it still didn't seem to click. When I play it on the 360 it just...feels right.

Also, my laptop's a little too old to play this game. It can play the game on low settings, but it takes forever to load the maps.

I have to agree with you there on the learning curve. My kill/death ratio is still in the tank because I had no idea what I was doing. I would actually recommend Support for new players, since the class encourages playing it safe. It also allows you to observe the other classes while you're helping them indirectly by healing them and fortifying your base.

For those worried about K/D ratios in MNC: don't. The game isn't about killing the other team, it's about breaching their defenses and destroying their Moneyball before they get to yours. If you find you're not doing so great when going toe-to-toe with other human players, don't panic. You're not doing your team a great disservice by dying. If killing off human players is too difficult, don't worry about that either; make it your business to destroy enemy bots and turrets, and protect your base. Players who actually know what they are doing will love you for this: so many people just jump in and start headhunting human players, which does no good at all except to take them out of the action for a few seconds.

Furthermore, if you dedicate your time to mowing down enemy bots and turrets, you'll find you get a large amount of cash, which you can then use to send out your own bots or build turrets of your own. Again, your team will love you for this - so many players completely neglect turret building/upgrading and concentrate only on boosting their own skills.

Lastly, if you stay out of the line of fire and just mow down bots (and/or heal turrets/bots if you're Support) you'll find that you'll quickly rack up Juice. You can then use this to mow down a human player if you really want to boost your K/D, or you can use it to storm the enemy base and hack/obliterate as many turrets as you can.

Honestly guys, it's not a big deal if you're not so good at shooters. A semi-decent team player is much, much better than someone who's fantastic at ignoring bots and uselessly shooting enemy humans.

From what I know of it, it's a third-person version of DOTA. Although judging from the Steam statistics, there's about 1600 players so I assume there is a good amount of players on the game regularly.
