Right, I know this isn't going to be as extreme as some other people's money issues, but still.

I'll start at the beginning: I was given £1000 for my GCSE result about a year ago, and was told strictly not to touch it unless I absolutely needed to. I am a 17 year old with more money than sense. In the last 3 months, I've spent a lot. I'm £450 into that grand.

Has the Escapist got any advice on how to stop myself from spending money that really doesn't need to be spent?

I have one. I think I'm just gonna start leaving the little card at home :S
Go to your parents, admit what you've done and ask them to take the money back. That way they'll respect you for your maturity (even if they'll be a little annoyed) and they'll have to authorise withdrawals.

Don't save. Saving is for chumps. You could die tomorrow. Spend as much as possible as fast as possible. Buy everything imaginable. Godspeed.

Good idea. I'll probably do this if I hit £500 into it. Hopefully just leaving the thing that allows me to acquire the money at home will help.

What're you spending it on? If you're completely broke outside of that grand, and you're using it to buy food and stuff then that's obviously acceptable, but otherwise here's the only advice I can think of: Lie to yourself that you in fact do not have all of that money. Tell yourself that the only money you have is the money you have otherwise, so you are never tempted to use that wad of cash.

Otherwise, yeah, put it into a bank in a saving's account.

Good idea. To be honest, it's just been crap that I don't need and going out more than anything else. I'm going to do this, and just leave the card at home, so that I really only have the money that I'm carrying on me.

Don't sweat it, I got very like that when I got my first big batch of cash too. Money becomes less exciting once you're accustomed to it, especially if you lead the relatively cheap life of a PC gamer.

450 monitos in 3 months is not so bad.. well, if you only spent it on candy then you might wanna get a hold of yourself.. But all in all, 450 £ is not alot of money.

Set sails and become a pirate?

If you don't have a hat or boat, stop playing video games for a few months, then come back and re-buy the games you missed pre-owned. What do you do for the few months? Lock yourself in a dark room. Or, buy an MMO, or Oblivion, or Garry's Mod, or some other game with a shitload of replayability and play only that for ages. Become addicted to it, it'll save you money in the long term. Also, watch films through other people's windows.

If you wanna make some money in the process too, then here's a good plan.
