I'm just warning people on Skype now that there is Moneypaks Virus going around on it.
It's also known as the "FBI virus" due to it being a fake letter from the FBI telling you have been looking at "illegal" sites. It locks your computer, and you can't acess it without safe mode.

>.> It's a REAL pain in the ass to remove.

I don't even know how yet.

Does anyone have a good malware remove scanner to remove this shit?

Start > Search "msconfig" and look under the startup tab. Remove anything that looks supsicious, that should stop it from launching when you log on your PC.

That's what I usually do when I get a virus, then I mess around with some other shit (I can't remember what) to get rid of it for good. This is probably better placed in the advice forum IMO :3

Well I knew how to get rid of it. (Malware virus) I just wanted to post this here, because it's more of warning than any real advice. o:

Malwarebytes - that's a good anti-malware tool. Alternatively the "don't open random stuff you get over Skype" is a good one. I got my mother this one and virus infections have since went down by 100%. Erm, from 1 to none.

How does one catch it? Does it happen when you logged into Skype?

The OP missed that their is a version of this virus out there that won't let you in to Windows at all, not even Safe Mode. I removed a version of this from my brother in laws computer the other day. Safe Mode would result in the computer logging in and then instantly shutting down without any interaction from myself.

Best way is to kill it from command prompt.

You can either try a restore point prior to the virus setting up home or you can try msconfig from command prompt, failing that you can try Hitman Pro Kickstart, but this requires you have a spare computer to hand with which to make the bootable USB drive.

If you go the Msconfig route then disable anything that looks even vaguely out of the ordinary from the startup tab, reboot and once you get back into Windows run Hitman Pro and remove anything it finds, once you've done that do a FULL system scan with Malware Bytes and again remove anything it finds.

Malwarebytes. Amazing tool and it's free. Did a Quick Scan with it and it took care of it in a minute.
