My monitor is hissing, and it isn't a lizard.
I've had this Dell ~17 inch monitor since 2004. It's flatscreen, HD, nice little thing that came with the computer. Now it's hissing, and it doesn't have built-in speakers (though I did mess with the speakers and volume of the comp to make certain).
I'm first going to go over the monitor and area around it with a cloth to move dust. Sometimes my computer makes noise when it gets a build-up of bunnies and cat fur.
Short of that not fixing anything, I can only assume it's a signal of the tech's impending doom.
So, unless you can give me some mythical cure to fix the hissing sound, can anyone suggest a new type of monitor to buy out there, or what websites to look at for a good deal? I don't want to upgrade or anything, I don't want to pay my monthly salary on the thing, and I don't care if it's still under 18 inches. I just want a nice flat-screen with a black rim to replace the one that's more than likely going to die on me in the next month.
I'd also like to know what sorts of monitors or brands to avoid, so I don't have to deal with the thing exploding into flames on me and burning down my room.
