My brother could not drone on enough about how much he liked the Monster Hunter series, so having a 3DS XL and currently waiting for the new iteration of Pokemon to get here, I bought this game to see what all the commotion was about. All I can say is...

I love gun-lances.

*cracks knuckles* lets see, where can i start...Ok. First up, Monster hunter IS on PC. Yes you have to do some workarounds to play frontier, but its there to play. Cant read Japanese? Go cry in the corner then pansy, real hunters know how to handle shit.

Now lets see..the PS3 HD P3rd version recently came to the Japanese PSN as the Best of series with a decent price-point. Just download it from the Japanese psn. Simple stuff. A lot of english players play it as well, so you have a great chance of finding english players to play with.

Wii U does just fine. I have owned the game for a while now, no complaints, just praise for it. Seems monster hunter does not need this processor you claim is absent. Remarkable.

Last but not least, Since some people never read the interviews, Monster Hunter decided to head to Nintendo platforms due to a disagreement with Sony. Sony demanded achievements, trophies, their own take on the online system. Monster Hunters team said screw you to sony, and went to Nintendo instead since Nintendo was not trying to be a dick (Also remember frontier IS on the 360 in japan. Why isn't it on the 360 in the U.S? They CLAIM its due to an inability to take care of so many players interacting and limited financial support to expand the servers bandwidths for both U.S./E.U. shore, and due to it generally not being hugely popular enough in the U.S. to be able to charge people a monthly fee long enough to survive and support itself), So please, My monster Hunter unite hardcore fans, please get this through you're heads. Sony is the one who basically told them to either submit or fuck off. The MH team refused. You F$%%&^$%^^ Should be proud of them for that. Not ranting and crying like 7 yr olds.
Challenge Accepted!

Want to explain to me how a work around, which is technically a breach of the TOS which WOULD get me sued is the equivalent of being on PC? I could play MHTri on PC no problem, all I need is a Wiimulator. However is that really a PC port? Not really is it? It is me rigging the game to play on my PC which again is technically a breach of the TOS just by owning the ROM as per Nintendo's orders. You aren't asking me to breach copyright are you :p????

At the same time you cry and whine about how hard it is to have Sony bust down on them. Sony is not present on the PC, not even in Japan. So what is their excuse there? Nothing really. They could easily just port over the 360 version but no. Due to a lack of support for servers on the PC (have people rent dedicated servers problem solved) they can't do that? Puhlease I have been a PC gamer long enough to know bullshit when I hear it.

What I am hearing is allot of excuses and not allot of reasons. Though it is quite funny how poor sales in the US are apparently a good reason to not port it to platforms that would reach their intended audience, I am assuming their intended audience not being kids younger than 11 and adults older that 65 which is basically all you where going to get on the Wii.

I should be proud of a company that refuses to port most of their games to me? Because they didn't want to compromise on a platform that the people that asked them to compromise are not a part of? Again puhlease, I guess I should also be happy about all the American companies that refuse to stream in my country because of "reasons". Oh how principled of them! Let me show them how much I respect them by illegally streaming all the content they refuse to sell me :D

Maybe if they would shell out those 50 extra bucks for spoken dialogue I might not have to learn how to read my 5th language. I would be fine with half understood spoken dialogue but they had to put it in fucking text, have to copy paste the entire text doc into google translate before it's even playable, this is also a breach of the TOS btw, tampering with game files :).

I think you have a bit of the fanboy fever bro. Also it's "like a seven year OLD" not OLDS.
As i said earlier, its there to play. If you play it, have fun. If its in japenese well, who cares? If you play MH allot, there's honestly little doubt you wouldn't be able to Decipher most parts of a monster or even items. Granted, frontier has japenese monsters only, which may pose a problem, but I'm sure you could find it out. If it looks like a claw or fang, it must be a claw or fang. I'll emphasize again since you got a tad excited there, its there to play if you chose to. I don't care what you want to do or not, I'm just saying its there.

If you chose to use an emulator, then do so. Again, i don't really care, its still the fact that you have options. You can complain or do something about it. As for the servers for frontier and the 360, its what the company CLAIMS. To be brutally honest, i don't see an MMO MH in the west where you need to pay monthly surviving. Mostly because as you said, we can smell the bullshit, most MH fans wont want to pay, they just want to play some Monster hunter. They will go elsewhere to get their fix. On the PC,well, from what I've been told about the game its a fairly strict MMO with Capcom Representatives/mods around a good amount. Ever played them free MMO's that are all over the place? Ever see those stupid Bot players constantly trying to advertise its cash for gold, or some other crap? Or maybe the random hacker? I don't want to see that in my monster hunter, and I'm pretty sure the japenese would not either. Remember, its what they CLAIM, i call B.S. myself. I think its microsoft trying REALLY hard to sell more 360's in japan.

yes, i would say be proud of a company sticking up for itself that it wants to stay rooted in its ways. So they moved to another platform, who cares? Get a job and just buy the stupid console/handheld that its associated with and enjoy the series. If it truly is far too hard for you to afford such and you are a huge fan, I would gladly oblige. Otherwise, I myself am happy they did not let sony walk over them like that. There has been a lot of that sort of thing going around lately, and its nice to see a beloved franchise say screw off to a dick of a company. Of course, if you want the ps3 HD portable 3rd version, that is once again located in the japenese store, under ps3, then go to new arrivals, Should be pretty far up there on the list. Your welcome mate.

Also, what exactly are you having so much trouble reading? I soared in my gameplay of 3rd HD on the ps3, and I don't know ANY japenese, i just used monster hunter logic and knowledge. If you flailed or failed in that regard, Im sorry man, such greatness CAN be difficult to achieve, but most hunters can attain such very easily after long long extensive plays of Unite. Hell, i even imported a japenese psp along with Portable 2nd G and i did fine. Just that good ole monster hunter logic.

Again its what you choose to do. But stuff happens man. If they moved on from sony (Monster Hunter 4 cough? Nah, screw hiding that), then they moved on. If you do however decide to try emulation or frontier, by all means, go ahead and give it a go. But from the sound of it you are not capable of using monster hunter knowledge effectively enough to Wade through japenese. A shame really. But i wont have you saying its unplayable. It is. But I will NOT have you spouting ITS NOT HERE OR THERE. It is. Its how you obtain it, well, thats up to you bub. What you violate is your own skin. Remember, this series is still hardcore Japenese fan-based, and they WILL service the japenese far more than us until they think MH is as popular as CoD Is everywhere else. Which to achieve that goal would be near impossible.

Third times a charm I suppose... I tried to play Monster Hunter Freedom, then tried Monster Hunter Freedom 2 but I reeeeeeeeeeally want to get into this series... *sigh* but if you make me WALK those freaking Rathian eggs back to camp again im gonna put my fist through my DS!!!
Those quests aren't required for clearin 99% of the game BUT there is one extra boss you only unlock by clearing all village quests.

OT: I'm still debating whether to get this on my 3DS or Wii U. On the one hand I can take the game anywhere, grind for 15 minutes at a time whenever I have some spare time, or have a HD big screen experience with easier-to-read text and online.
Choices!
Technically you could get both since the saves can be imported

Can you play local coop with two wiiu controllers? I really want to try this but I want to know if me and my girlfriend can play together.
No, the second person has to have the 3ds version

MONSTA HUNTAH.... Y U NO ON PC!!!!!

Seriously I will NEVER fucking understand the phenomenal stupidity behind franchises like these who just blatantly refuse to release on any hardcore platform. I know there is a PS3 version out SOMEWHERE but good fucking luck getting that one, even amazon has just 1 copy left in stock at the time of writing and it's 90$, yes American dollars, In America, and it doesn't come with a Japanese-English dictionary either.

Seriously people get on porting this game, you could do so much more if you had an actual processor to work with. Imagine individual limb targeting and harvesting. Hunter Blade is a good substitute but why settle for off brand when you can get the real thing?
There isn't a ps3 version of this game, however the last entry in the series (japan only) had a PS3 HD release. Since then Sony pissed Capcom off however and they seem to have completely switched to Nintendo for Monster Hunter games.

Monster Hunter is a confusing game. The only quests that matter are the quests where you fight long and drawn out battles against (sometimes difficult) monsters who don't always drop the items you need to craft that next piece of armor or weapon you've had your eye on. And why do you do this? To go and fight a different monster for the exact same reasons. Grind on, you crazy diamond.

All that said though, perhaps the most confusing thing of all is why I have continued to play it since the first U.S. installment. >.>
I like how equipment progression actually shows in this game. Almost every single armor and weapon has its own design. The bossfights are also very fun and i don't mind to have to grind for time to time.

Targeting individual limbs you say, hmm, you mean like the game already does? With different body parts taking different amounts of damage from different types of attacks, and having multiple break points, like head claws and tail cutting. Yep, need a PC to do that......

Hell the first one had different targetable zones and carving points, the lao could be carved while still alive then had 3 different carvable points when it was down.

Can anyone tell me if on the 3ds version you can spawn npc's to quest with you offline? I love this series but the lack of 3ds online angers me, and I cannot be asked doing this game alone again MHFU was enough!

To celebrate my six hundred and sixty sixth post here is a picture of Satan which I have censored for Christians who are offended by such things. It is of the nineteenth century depiction of Satan as a misunderstood hero, someone who was challenging the corrupt governments of the time and standing up for the beleaguered working class. Such revolutionary pictures were common around that time in Europe.

I understand Satan has nothing to do with monster hunter so here is a picture of a diablos which is kind of a devil and also, the monster I wore the most whilst playing MHFU

Don't feel too discouraged, its basically what sony did with their ps3, the wii U has a relay tool to allow you to play with the 3ds over the internet. However, offline local co-op plus single player has been made a whole lot easier by having much improved a.i of 2 shakalaka's join you in offline combat. So really you'll never be entirely alone, plus, those 2 little guys can become very powerful and very useful. Mine gives me Health recovery L a lot.

Oh so its just like in the demo with the two little creatures following you around and not actual npc monster hunters? Stuff it then I played the demo and killed the ice rabbit but I barley made a dent on the Plesioth and both the little creatures were helping me. No I think I'll give this game a miss, I wont support Capcom when they pull shit like this.
Thanks for the info :)

By the time you actually fight Plesi in the game your equipment will probably be much stronger than in the demo (He is a high rank monster so you will already have cleared half the game). There are also different masks for your offline followers, some of them being very effective for their combat ability. You can send out the offline avatars of people you met to do quests for you and deliver you their materials.

Actual online can only be used over the Wiiu, which is better than the psp versions and their Adhoc party. You can do local co-op with friends over their 3DS and/or WiiU as well.

Thanks for the elaboration its been hard getting any decent information about this game. Its not really a matter of being able to kill the plesi its a matter of doing it with my friends, which I wont be able to do on my 3ds and I have no plans to buy a wiiU as of yet. Capcom could have given the 3ds version online play but it was probably a shitty buisness practice of Nintendo's to increase wiiU sales, and I dont like those sort of business tactics so I won't be getting either (until they bring out the next zelda for the wiiU).

I think it has more to do with the Monster Hunter team since not a single of their handheld versions had internet capabilities by itself yet. Probably got something to do with the fact that handhelds and the handheld version of Monster Hunter are really popular in Japan, so those people don't have any problems finding local co-op partners.

I lost it when I saw Azure Rath chasing the pajama poogie. Shame it wasn't in a poogie melon costume.

I've had fun with MHP3 on my PSP, will MH3U add anything new in the way of enemy and boss types?

An HD Zelda doesn't tempt you? Pikmin 3? Bayonetta 2? A New (hopefully more like Melee) Super Smash Bros game? Huh...
I had forgotten about Smash Bros being released. If it has any of the new Fire Emblem characters in it, I'll have to buy Smash + MH3 + Wind Waker + the Wii U.
