Monster Hunter tri - chopping tails

Hey peeps
I got this game last week and it's alright i suppose. Now, i dont know why i have a habbit of making things harder for myself but i've gotten comfy with playing as a Gunner. Running up to a huge beastie with either a little sword or stupidly huge sword doesnt make sense to me.

So...I'm 'grinding' Barroth at the moment (the one who 'rofl's in the mud) to update my armour and make a set before i move on..looks cool. The only thing i need is his Tail.
I can see there is a certain bullet which hints at severing tails but is there a trick to it? Such as getting him weak first or sending him to sleep?
Can anyone give me some pointers on doing this? (or perhaps advise me to wait for an upcoming set which is better for gunners?)

That's all I can think of at the moment, I've never played the MH games. Maybe find some sort of sleeping dust to put on some bait?

meeh :/ I can kill the thing easy, it's just breaking off the tail i cant find any info on. Perhaps one of the NPCs told me how and i shut them...they talk too much ¬_¬

I just returned that game yesterday for sucking. I try and support good Wii titles, like TvC, and so bought Monster Hunter. But that ain't good. It's the world's most boring grind, combined with the world's shittiest combat engine.

How this is popular, I'll never know.

As for help, it is possible that WHERE you harvest on the body effects what you get?

Its a bad game not saying the Wii is bad but the second one (on PSP) was much better.

And sorry but the only way I have found to chop off tails is using a sword.

Yeah if you can use exhaust to make its stam. go so it slows so its easier to shoot, then use paralyze an get the tail using slice while its paralyzed (paralyze is best with a team). note:if your on your own and theres two, or just a qurepeco/Grt. Jaggi best not to do

So...to take the tail off, do i just focus on it until it comes off? I shoot at it for ages but cant tell when to 'slice' it.

Audio, you cant chop off tails with a guns. All the MH games have three types of damage- Shooting, crushing, and cutting. Shooting is for ariel targets, crushing for breaking heads and wings, and cutting for tails. Trust me, im a total MH geek.

Sorry to say but on Tri you can cut with guns, you gotta use a slicing bullet on the tail, however the trick is, it must be free of mud and beaten enough to be cut off.

If it's covered in mud water bullet the mud until it's free to go and pray it doesn't covers itself again.

I foresse you'll have a bit of a situation to get the cuts from Lagriacus as a solo gunner.

You probably have gotten your set of armor since your post but to let you know the Great Sword is absolutely awsome!!.... Yes the learn for the timing of the swing is a slug trail of dicks, but its a great weapon once mastered, im on the other end finding it "whack" for a gunner wasting so many shells into a monster that doesnt go down. never learned the Bowgun, never will.........Run your quests online to get the tails with help, that would be the fastest way.. Gunner is the Medic or healer of the quad, your a greater asset online..
