Moonwalking since 1969

So, here it is. 40 years ago today, man finally reached that big piece of rocky cheese in the sky. 40 years ago today JFK's promise was fulfilled. 40 years ago today Neil Armstrong fucked up his lines, but nobody seemed to notice, so solemn and epic that moment was.
40 years ago today the Apollo 11 lunar module landed on the Sea of Tranquillity, where Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first men to walk on the moon six-and-a-half hours later.

20 July 1969: the moment that captured a generation, and kept it interested in space travel.

...........................................

400.000 men and women at the NASA base in Houston, Texas worked incessantly so that such an incredible feat could be possible, and yet, even today, it is said that 6% of Americans, and 1 out of 4 Britons interviewed believe it was all a hoax. Cue annoyed grunt.

So, in celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the moon landing, I ask the great people of Escapia this:

The Moon Landing: Hoax or Real thing?

And also, with interest in space travel at an all time low, when do you think we will finally reach other planets, like Mars?

It's been proven real so many times by people smarter than conspiracy theorists, there simply is no sane way of denying it.

Mythbusters did an episode on it too.

I;m not sure if its a hoax. People make some pretty intresting arguments. I'll take it as a real thing..For now

Don't know about the first moon landing (there's a lot of evidence both ways) but since others have been on the moon we've certainly been there.
Oh and getting to mars isn't going to happen until we get faster ships (takes a year or something at current speeds)

Hooray we spent millions to conquer a barren rock, go humanity.

But I still think there's a chance it could have been faked,as America really needed to boost moral against the Russians, but its more likely it was genuine. We'll probably get to Mars some time in the next 50 years, there running isolation tests at the moment with people being kept inside a simulator of the the ship for 465 days if I remember rightly, so its likely we'll send some people to a barren red planet, then they can return to earth in 20 years theres bodies wrecked and there spirit broken.

The only reason some people think it's a hoax is because the idea of a great conspiracy is so entertaining. It's the only reason why conspiracy theories have any steam whatsoever.

While we're at it, all satellite communications are fake because we lack the technology to send anything into space and are only showing off to embarrass the Soviet Union, which most certainly did not dissolve in the 20th Century. Clearly.

On a more serious note, I doubt actual human exploration of other planets will be forthcoming, for reasons related to economy and public disinterest more than anything else.

I'm not too bothered if it was faked or not. Denying it won't change the past and proving it's real won't make it any more special than it is already viewed as being.

While getting to Mars and beyond would be awesome, my pessimism says we have already fucked up this planet so badly that we should be kept away from the rest of space forever, just so we don't get the chance to wreck everywhere else too.

Oh people REALLY still think it's a hoax? Come on... Dorian is right, it is just entertaining to believe, but the evidence is totally to the contrary. They did things like leaving reflectors on the surface so that people back on earth could shine lasers and get an echoing wavelength coming back at them (This doesn't work on the regular moon surface).

Also, if it were a hoax to beat the Russians, why the hell did the Russians themselves not do something? The answer is that they would have verified it, seen that it really happened, and stayed quiet.

I haven't seen/researched enough to know either way.

I am however interested in how far we can get and what there is to see. I'd love to go aswell, even if it did completely wreck me for the rest of my life. Might have been for nothing though if all you see is dust, but still weightlessness and to see the earth from that far would be amazing.

I WANNA GO!

I don't care if it's a hoax.
If the americans benefited from it in any way it doesn't really matter.
Also, I heard something about not being able to stick a flag in the surface of the moon by hand.

Aaa yes, the "Moon landing is a hoax" theorists. I spend a couple of months arguing with a couple of them, in the end I refuted every single claim and they *gasp* agreed with me! They told me I was right! "Holy shit, I defeated conspiracy theorists!" was my first thought. It's really my Crowning Moment of Awesome on the internet.

So yes, there isn't a shred of evidence that it's fake. All conspiracy theorists do, is fill your head with doubt by transforming questions into statements.

Common sense: if there was anything dodgy about it, the Soviets would have denounced it as fraud. Plus they left reflectors up there that allows them to ping the moon from the earth with a laser.

I'm completely with you on this one, and thanks for a few new pointers to back myself up with...
I know a few people who think its a hoax, and well, its good to have as much ammo as possible

Obviously, in answer to the OP, I believe the Moon Landing was real
Does anyone know where they/their parents were when it landed?
Any interesting stories in that area?

My parents took off school to watch it on TV, not exciting, but eh...

It is not a hoax. WHY would it? Is the government trying to make us think we have mandatory moon rock flakes in our cereal??? And the Mythbusters busted some of the major proof against the thing.

And if I remember right, I think we're getting ready for a mission to Mars now, so maybe before 2025?

They left a special reflector on one of the very real moon missions. Astronomers point a laser at it every day, tracking changes in the distance between the moon and earth.

When will we go to Mars? Sometime after we go back to the moon. Setting up a rescue mission with multiple days of delay is a lot more manageable than 3 years. Moon first, get space elevators working, then we'll talk Mars and beyond.

Of course the moon landings were bloody real.

It makes me so angry when people say otherwise, to nonchalantly dismiss one of humankind's greatest achievements.

The Moon landing was the biggest hoax in the histroy of mankind. We didn't do it in 1969
We have been since, but we didn't do it in 1969.
