In a bullet point: this kid has Retinal Blastoma-- cancer of the eyes. He lost his left eye when he was an infant, and is losing his other eye at the age of 12.

So... as a father, what is the last vision you grant your son?

The story is that he wanted to see the University of Southern California play.

However, I'm thinking: "Fuck that. I'm getting the best-looking woman in the world that I can to strip for him."

My thinking is that, while yeah, he'll always have the tactile to fall back on, at least he'll be able to place it in the frame of reference of a really hot visual. My wife thinks that he's probably "a little too young for that", and...

well, I'm wondering what you guys and gals think.

In defense of my position, I will only say this: we, as animals before we are thinking beings, are beholden to our emotions and our visceral reactions. While I have never been a man to over-emphasize physical beauty, I honestly don't believe that it can be completely discounted, either.

To be honest, ideally, I would want him also to see Michaelangelo's work on the Sistine Chapel, the Pieta, many of the works at the Louvre, etc etc.

But to a male, one of the most exquisite works of beauty is the simple naked human female form.

So am I nuts?
Really? I'd let him see anything but.

That type of sexual desire is one the most base and mundane forms of pleasure there are, arisen from the biological need to mate and increase the numbers of any species of animal.
No sir, i would want him to see the best heights of reasoned, human, Sublimity Earth has to offer.

I would make sure he saw the Shrine of the Bab, the Parthenon, the Sistine chapel, Angel Falls, the Hagia Sophia, and other such wonders.

Heck, it might even be a favor to him, to not be as stirred by base Animal compulsions that make the rest of us act oh so Barbarically.
Well you don't sound high and mighty. So appreciating the human form or wanting to procreate makes us barbaric? I'm not saying the works of art you mentioned aren't glorious, but what about something like the statue of David? One of the most precious works of art in this world and it is of the naked human form? So does that make all of us who like it barbaric?

Personally, it isn't up to us to decide what to "make" him be his last vision. Give him what he wants. It's his choice, not ours to force on him. Heck if he wants the last thing he sees to be a monkey flinging feces let him. Maybe it will help him laugh in the future.

On another note, if you ever have seen someone naked - truly naked, both emotionally, physically, and spiritually, it is one of the most amazing sights ever. Simply because a person themselves can be a work of art.
Well, Obviously one wold heed his wishes. If he really did not want to go to Rome, and wished to see a university of south Carolina play, that would be fine.

But I would Definitely suggest the aforementioned locales if he ever asked me.

I am not saying that the human body is inherently BAD and sex is EVIL. However there is a massive difference between the Sistine Chapel and a strip club. In one there is the Love of Art and Aesthetics, in the other, Primal instincts, which are necessary, but interfere with our Higher nature at times.
I agree there is a difference, but does the human body he sees have to be at a strip club? I think it's a bit of a generalization to assume that a naked body has to be something vulgar. What if he was viewing a model in an art class? And I would still argue that anyone's higher nature is achieved through an expression of themselves doing what they love. For some it is music, or painting, or maybe it is playing a sport or solving an equation. Maybe for others it is to stand naked and without shame? I suppose my whole argument is the "don't judge a book by its cover".

Umm... it was to my understanding that god peed blindness upon the land to keep the uggos occupied. If you show the kid a hot woman naked he might adapt that standard before he loses his sight and that defeats the purpose. Take him to see the play and then bash him behind his back when he's dating a 400 pound woman (or man, which is more likely being as his life goal is to see the University of Southern California play.) and hell, if he actually finds a HOT girlfriend, steal her and replace her with a fat one just for shits and grins. He won't know the difference! :D

...do I get a prize for being more fucked up than anyone else on this thread?

well, damn, I glad the thread was intriguing enough to draw some attention.

Now, a bit of clarification:
OF COURSE you grant the kid what he wants. Duh. It would be morally abhorrent to do otherwise. In rereading the original post, I can see how it sounded differently, but it was more along the lines of 'kid doesn't really know what he wants. Personally, what you would
promote?'

And for the record, the arguments about sense compensation were puissant. I definitely would change my plans to something that could only be experienced through sight.

But all that stated, feel free to let this thread wither on the vine.

(Oh and apparently I was a precocious kid: I was fascinated by the female body from about the age of 11 or 12 on... Or maybe 'pervert' would've been more accurate.)

Well I could show him one of the most sexiest woman in the world orrrr I could show him one of the worst things in the world so he won't want to see again, although that might stick in his mind.

I would give him a list of the wonders of the world and let him choose to see one of them as well as a University play (how does a Uni 'play'? Is there a sport team called a University?)

The last vision? How about a look at a prosthetic vision device? Going blind, the last thing I'd like to see is that there's fucking HOPE to see again, because this isn't a matter of the visual cortex going wrong and I know there are such devices. Those who wish to see...should.
I'd have to go with this, or a news report of a successful eye transplant

Fair Enough.

I suppose the Line "Fuck that. I'm getting the best-looking woman in the world that I can to strip for him." Sent me off on that Tangent.

On some level, making a really stonking great pair of tits his last vision at that age will ruin him. For the rest of his life he'll put his hands on and bury his face in the bosom of hot chick after hot chick (if he's lucky), and knowing that he'll never be able to see that again will make him sad. And no man should EVER be sad with a pair of tits shoved in his face.

EDIT: Not going to change the wording, because it would make some of the responses not make any sense, but of course you give the kid what he wants. This was more of a "kid doesn't really have a preference" hypothetical.
you do make a good point, personally, iwould want to see a genuine expression of kindess between two people who hate one another.

If it were me and this were my kid, I'd mortgage my house and buy him/her a seat on a Russian space capsule or SpaceShipTwo. He'd get to see a sight which only a handful of people get to see with their own eyes.

Here I was thinking HK-47 when I saw this thread. Mildly disappointed...

OT: Really? A woman stripping? Why show the kid something he is to young to care about?

I'd just put on his favorite movie and watch it together with him. Father-and-son moments are stronger than some stupid painting.

get a really hot chick to strip for him at a university of southern california game? i dont see why thats so hard, that way he gets the game he wants to see at 12, and when he gets to 16 he has a really hot image of a girl in his mind to reference his tactile senses to.
