Yes, if he says nothing is on the other side in writing, so if I do kill something, I pocket the million and sue his ass
Exactly this. That's the smart way to approach it. Otherwise, you just end up killing some poor sod for money.

Wait, that's a bad thing?

No I wouldn't pull the trigger, it could be anything that lays on the other side of that door. Anything.

Ask him what's on the other side of the door. If he refuses to tell me, I leave.

If I can't leave, I kill him, just out of spite, open the door and find out.
Yeah, but then you find out he was your father, and the other side of the door hid a great big family reunion. With pie.

This is probably my favorite answer so far. Pie ftw :p

Um.. no if I could aim the gun myself I could then aim high enough to ensure I hit nothing but the ceiling or a giant but since it's it's fixed and since the offer is so high logically there's something I'd most likely rather not shoot on the other side.

Reminds me of the superb short film "The Black Button".

I'd ask if I could keep the key as it's a very pretty key as a memento of such a bizarre occasion. Although he does miss some of the obvious questions such as "Have you done this before?" "If so how many times?" and "How do I leave if I push the button, do I still get the key anyways?"
Edit: Actually I'd probably just presume him to be a psychotic billionaire and try to bludgeon him to death with the briefcase so as to end his depraved mind game.
Edit2: Wait what caliber gun are we talking here? Is it only just big enough to breach the door and kill something? If so I'd put my leg in front of it. Yes I'd shoot myself in the leg for one million dollars if nothing else it should slow the bullet down enough to not kill whomever may be on the other side.
Edit3:This is way off topic, I know but try to imagine how epic "Black Button" would have been if they had got Malcolm McDowell to play the guy in the chair.

In this scenario, yes. There is absolutely no evidence that I would be killing another person. In The Black Button scenario, as posted by curlycrouton, then no, I wouldn't. Money is not a good enough reason to consciously take someone's life.

if (hypothetically) there was a person in the room, wouldnt they die anyway because if there was a way to get out the room, they wouldve used it already and if you dont shoot they will just die of starvation or whatever you die from being stuck in a room

Basically this question is "Would you kill for money?"

I personally don't think this is as illustrative of a personality as people tend to think, as teenagers/immature adults tend to say "Hellz yeah bro I am superhardcore life means nothing to me" regardless of other factors.
no it is not a ''would you kill for money'' question.in the scenario you dont know if there is anybody or anything on the other side of the door.
Ah well, why would anyone offer you a million dollars and go through the trouble of setting up this gun, just to have you shoot at nothing?
as a test to see if you would do it? have you seen the ''wrong eye'' scene from saw?

You have to assume something of value is on the other side of the door, otherwise he wouldn't be offering you $1,000,000 to pull the trigger. I'd be tempted at first but I'm not a risk taker so I'd decline.

Yell to the other side, telling anyone to duck and cover. Shoot the gun and pocket the million. If someone is hurt/dead then they were retarded and I feel no grief for them.

This is of course assuming they can communicate with me, otherwise no.

What if it was set up to shoot a bomb. If it hurts me in any way then no. If it doesn't then hell yeah. Please wipe your tears on these dollar bills.*

I remember my English teacher asked me this question when I was in ninth grade, and ever since then I have been very interested in people's opinions. Let's say you are in a room connected to a separate room by a single door. A gun has been set up and rigged so that it will fire through the door hitting, if anything, whatever is on the other side. You have no idea what's on the other side of the door, but a man offers you $1 million to pull the trigger. Would you do it?
Yes supposing i can't be prosecuted for anything supposing i kill someone, cause clearly the guy knows whats on the other side (even if theres nothing and he's just checkin). On the other hand i'm not a perfect example of a human being.

Try this on,

3 people are tied onto a train track, you can pull a lever to make a train change direction and only crash into one person, do you do it?

(my answer would be yes, doom the one to save the many)

The next is you're a surgeon and there are 3 cases of people needing seperate organs (heart, liver, etc) a man needing stiches (or something minor) goes into surgery, you can easily kill him to save three people, would you do it?

(despite a similar result you're killing this guy (and consenquently saving three), where as in the other you're saving three (and consenquently killing one))

PS: those aren't my favorite morality questions, but they're famous ones so i wanted to share. Maybe someones got a different opinion?

No, without question. The fact that he's offering me one million means that there probably is someone on the other side, and I'm what a lot of people on the internet would call a "wuss with morals." I wouldn't kill another person period, and the risk here is too high.

Sure I would. I could just blame him if it ended up me murdering someone, and still keep the 1 million.
I... don't think it works like that...

I would not... the whole time while I was reading the OP's post... all I saw on the other side of the door was my mom.

TaborMallory had a good point, even if he/she does act like a little prick sometimes. The chances of it being someone you care about are slim... like winning the lottery, I believe he/she said. But this isn't an everyday situation. All logic is pretty much thrown out of the window on this one. Most of us, if not all of us will never even see HALF of a million dollars (unless one of you is secretly Bill Gates) let alone know or see someone else with a million dollars.

if a bullet can go thought the door then so can sound so I'd yell duck then pull the trigger, if the object is tied up and cant get out of the way then thats a shame
