They can take down whatever they want with an accusation that it says it violates copyright law. I'm not sure if the treaty actually says that, but because of ACTA my trust in the government has gone from "some" to "none" and now it seems logical that they would do something like that.supersupersuperguy said:So, if I got this straight... The government can search your house without a warrant and put you in court or even jail if they think you might, possibly, be infringing copyright? But how does it ruin free speech on the internet? I still don't entirely get it, but thanks for your explanation.Double A said:It circumcises the Internet.supersupersuperguy said:Maybe I'm behind on the news, but can I ask a stupid question?
What's this "ACTA" thing, and why should I care?
I DO know what it is, the "Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement", but I don't know what it does. I need a simple explanation, y'know, in a nutshell, if you don't mind.
In other words, ACTA allows countries to come in to your house without a warrant, try you without evidence or a reason, or even just send you to jail, if you even think about violating copyright. It also makes it impossible to donate medicine to Africans (so pharmaceutical countries get more money, apparently?) and burns Internet free speech and the US Constitution. It violates about half your human rights, and they're probably trying to figure out how to rape the other half.
"You can only have a gun if you are in the government!" may come up in the near future.
Something the other guy didn't say, you basically get three strikes to violate it, as in, watch a youtube video with copyrighted material? Strike one. Download a picture containing copyrighted material (almost every picture)? Strike two. Ever rip a CD to a computer? Strike three. Your internet is shut down.supersupersuperguy said:Maybe I'm behind on the news, but can I ask a stupid question?

Actually, the US government already can do all of that already if someone declares you a terrorist. The 4th amendment was deleted by the Patriot Act, the 1st Amendment is being systematically ripped away thanks to things like politcal correctness (which is ruining lives, thanks to PC turning Shellshock into post-traumatic stress disorder many Vietnam vets didn't get the help they needed).supersupersuperguy said:So, if I got this straight...
