Remember that guy the Escapist covered awhile back who was doing the 8-bit remakes of Left4Dead, as well as a few other games? I think about that guy a lot, and combined with the topic of the week here at the Escapist (FF7 remakes if you've been under a rock) I want to see this hit the mainstream. Hell, New Super Mario Bros already did it!

Sure, Bionic Commando and Dark Void at 8-bit downloads, but those were full-fledged products on their own.

Imagine if you will, De-making classic franchises:

Fallout 3 as a turn-based isometric would make some fanboys happy, but it would totally underscore the flimsy main plotline. On the other hand, it would totally make Operation Anchorage worth playing.

Does FF13 hold up if you strip out the shiny graphics? Throw a 16-bit version out there and find out! At least we wouldn't have to suffer through the voice acting.

Yes, actually, Dragon Age COULD be bigger. Let's just throw it on the old Baldur's Gate engine and keep pouring on content till our writers collapse from exhaustion!

Obviously whatever game does this needs a strong pedigree to revert to and shouldn't be reliant on 3D to make it work, but what else would you guys like to see De-Made?

I think FF13 would be ace in 16-bit tbf :) it'd be alot like FF6

As for other games...I'm actually really cool with current graphics lol though I'd be interested to see if the new PoP games would work in the old 2D style, that'd be cool to see

Or if team Ico games would be anywhere near as good if they were SNES games

I think I saw somewhere a 8-bit version of God of War 3 or something. I think it had everything like QTEs and all except for the grapchis of course. Would be cool to play your favorite games that way.

I wondered few times how Ratchet & Clank would hold up as a classic 16-bit platformer/shooter. I imagine it would be sort of like Megaman.

I'd also call for Team Fortress 2 demake, but it already exists.

I can't think of any game that I'd like it to happen to. Why would you want to make something worse?

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying all old games are bad (look at my avatar), but they were good for their time and now technology is more advanced then a game is always going to be better if they take advantage of it.

It's like planes. Sure the SpitFire was amazing for it's time, but now we have the ability for fighter jets. It doesn't mean the Spitfire is bad, but it is certainly outdated.

On a side-note as you brought it up: How is the plot for Fallout 3 any worse than the original Fallouts'?

Leave vault to find water chip. Find water chip and save vault. Discover Super Mutant army is trying to make all humans turn into them, stop Super Mutant army and save vault and humanity.

Fallout 3 was linear as hell and forced you to be a hero.

No it didn't.

You could choose to infect the water supply and kill all mutants/ghouls and you could choose not to save the water machine and let it blow up. Both give a bad ending just like you can have in Fallout's.

I do agree that being forced to join the BOS pissed me off though (even though I would have chosen to) as the option to help the Enclave directly was never given.

I hope they will fix that for New Vegas.

What about Oblivion's plot?

Find heir, fight alongside the heir, close evil gates, defeat the big bad.

Sometimes, the shorter the plot is, the better. See - Diablo series, TF2, Left 4 Dead.

I have no idea. I have never played it (not a fan of Fantasy).

I do agree that no plots can work, although that's only if they didn't pretend otherwise *looks at the Gears of War and Halo games*. Those two are especially foolish in that they actually have quite a decent back-story and books.

Well, there's a really good semi-demake in 3D Dot Game Heroes. It's like a 3-D old school zelda.

That guy totally lost a million points for making the keyboard controls not customizable and therefore rendering the game completely unplayable for people with an AZERTY keyboard like myself.

Though the idea is pretty solid and would allow users with less than capable hardware experience a version of the awesome new games that come out nowadays. High end graphics shouldn't be the most important part of a game anyway.
