Let's hope it's tougher than the PS2 slim...

No hammer resistance.

The regular one was like a frickin' tank.
Yes but if you recall the original "tank" ps2 had a bunch of chronic hardware problems.
It... did? Mine served me for 5 years, and my dad's one is still works fine...
It wasn't as widespread or notorious as the rrod but there was a chronic disc read error in many of those early models. That isn't to say that there are still survivors. I also know quite a few people with the "tanks."

There was a large amount of dvd drive failures, I was working at gamestop around that time.

someone failed at Sony's marketing department against, they really can't keep info from leaking! These rumours are becomming as persistent as the PSP: Go's former rumours.

Real or not, I still think a Slim PS3 at this point in the game is kind of a stupid idea...

But with consumers being who they are, it might be just what Sony needs ("Hey Brandine! It's a slimmer PS3!).

What remains to be seen however is whether or not such a relatively small drop in price is sufficient for Sony to take the number two spot.
Sony already has the number two spot in Europe.
For some reason America is all that matters.
Weird since the U.S only has around 2.5 milion ps3 while EU has around 8 milion.

Check the Europe statistics. They're still below Xbox 360, but it's much closer than it is in the states. Joint second more than distinctly third... maybe you're thinking of Japan?
oh... well PS3 was ahead last time I checked.

>_<
actually the ps3 is outselling the xbox, in the time they've been out the ps3 has sold more

check out how much the 360 has sold compared to how much the ps3 has sold, yet the ps3 has been out a year less than the 360

6 years before mine perished in a house fire.
Upsetting to say the least.
That PS2 was older than millions of humans.

As for the PS3 slim, Sony has a poor record for keeping secrets, so I'll guess that there is some basis in truth for the slim model.

Fuck the PS3 Slim; how about the PS3 Somewhat Cheaper?
That...kind of comes with the package usually, no?
Considering they've apparently <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/93576-Sony-Has-Cut-PS3-Production-Costs-By-70-Percent>cut production costs by two-thirds without so much as a price drop, why should I believe that?
Because if that link is true, then they would sell the Ps3 Slim at $300? That link kind of proves my point, if they have lower production costs then they would maximize profit for the "fat" PS3 and then sell the Slim at a lower cost nearer to the alleged production cost now.

I mean, if they have lower production costs, then eventually a price cut would happen. They just need to make some money off of the console since they've been selling it at a loss until now.
