That's not Battlefront 3.

If none of you mentioned the name of the game in the footage, I would have thought it was pre-alpha footage of a new Republic Commando game. Just for the sole reason that this footage has you in first person mode, where battlefront 3 was ALWAYS third person mode.

If this was what Battlefront 3 could have turned out to be, than thank goodness it didn't come out. Otherwise, Battlefront 3 based on this footage, would have been a generic FPS like Republic Commando.

You could switch to first person in Battlefront 2. I don't know why you would want to, but you can.

I never did it in view so I assume it wasn't even in it when it first came out lol XD.

It was already said but you could play in first person in the other Battlefronts, the ability to change views was a very cool feature that most games dont have, so yeah... I guess if you played in TPS it was a good game but if you switched to FPS it would become generic. /sarcasm

Based on the footage in the OP, yeah, the game looked like a very generic (besides the wonderful flight/space combat bits) FPS game with a Star Wars skin on it. Especially since they didn't show ANY footage of the game in third person (besides once again, the space combat).

So I'm glad THIS game didn't get made. I hope they just start from scratch if they do decide to make a new Battlefront and make it in the way it's supposed to be with new updated features as well as updated graphics/animations and what not.

Am i remembering the wrong games? As far as i can recall Battlefront 1 & 2 were never really particularly special gameplay wise. They were very much bog-standard T/FPS (toggling between the two was possible from the very start, except perhaps in vehicles, i forget) affairs, certainly not especially better than the average T/FPS out there at the time. I remember my first impressions of Battlefront 1 being similar to yours watching this video: "Well, seems like Battlefield with a decent Star Wars mod." Didn't stop me from loving it to buggery though.

This just looked like a revamp of 2, slightly updated graphics, looked like more fluid gameplay, other than that, pretty similar all round. And to be honest, that's all i want from this sort of game. Don't need the bells and whistles, just functional gameplay, plenty of new vehicles with nice new maps to use them in, and i'll be happy.

It's so beautiful, yet heartbreaking to watch, like crimson flames consuming an orphanage for blind puppies.

I'm not an expert, but it seems like most of the work is done save for some bug work and polishing (some of the collision detection was off, and the walk of the AT-ST looked strange.) Hopefully Disney gets it finished up in-house or outsources it.

P.S. That 'To Be Continued' felt like a kick to the gut.

They would kind of have to outsource it at this point. Lucasarts is dead as a developer now. This was apparently their internally made version of the game, after they fucked over Free Radical's version.

I meant that Disney would get Disney Interactive Studios (the guys behind Epic Mickey and Kingdom Hearts) to finish work. Disney is too smart to completely abandon video games, but it seems like they prefer to have their own people working on projects rather than other companies Disney owns (like Lucasarts).

Never played much of 2 but the bit I did play, I enjoyed so much! Would love for this to come out but I am not going to get my hopes up.

I think this is the only star wars game I enjoyed, although KOTOR2 does look good.

I honestly don't understand why games that are this close to completion are cancelled. Surely expectable profits must be higher than the costs of finishing these more than half-finished products up?!

The iron sights are dumb. Stormtroopers could reasonably have crosshairs built into their visors.

Looks ok, the free radical version looked better though. This REALLY just looks like a re-skinned battlefield game. Being told to find a medic when hurt, similar running animations and everything!

I suppose the first battlefront was a take on battlefield anyway though...

Glad to see that LucasArts decided not to put their time and money into something like this, which looks pretty good and would generate a metric ass-tonne of sales due to popularity and demand. Instead they put their efforts into glorious masterpieces like this:
