We don't know much about time. I never really understood physics much, but I've always been pretty curious, I heard some people say 'time doesn't exist', I've also heard that 'time is a man-made perception of the world'.
Which made me think - time ALWAYS had to be around, or we wouldn't exist in the first place.
So. I was browsing YouTube bored out of my mind, the other day and saw an amusingly cute video of two squirrels fighting (they WEREN'T harmed don't yell at me - please stay on topic) and noticed, they were fighting amazingly quickly, it was like watching a video on fast-forward.
I mean there's better natural reflexes and there's a whole new level - there's no thinking time there.

Which has lead me to the idea, as weird as it sounds - that perhaps it's not a 'human perception' but a single persons brain perception. As in, our brain controls how fast we personally see time. Hear me out before you yell science at me, as I failed my science happily and would rather at least TRY to come up with something interesting but potentially realistic.
To put it into perspective, you've probably all heard about the brain being compared to a giant computer (don't know much about the brain either but still). But perhaps the mind in some way, dedicates... 'brainpower' to how we see time. As in, we'll ALWAYS have the same 'FPS', our mind simply can't process more than a certain amount, it's why we see very VERY fast flashing objects as a clear light, it's the only way the brain can process it, so surely extra unused brain power could potentially go towards how fast or slow we see things, the less brainpower available the more we let things 'slip by faster', but when we're bored out of our minds and we're thinking of nothing, the mind can process everything else a little faster hence increase time - therefore slowing it down in our view.
Which brings me onto the concepts links - perhaps we actually sense things with whatever brainpower isn't being used. This would fit in rather well with other things, like how we always seem to bored and time drags out, time flying when you're having fun. Or one of those average work days where you're kind of half paying attention to the extent that works being done but you got your head in the clouds, hence it's passing slightly slower.
I've never personally been in a fight and no little about violence, but a lot of people who seem to focus more win fights, simply because their mind is clear and they view the world ever so slightly slower, hence gaining an advantage as they can use reflexes to a better advantage.

Well there you have it, some mad time concept I thought up while in the bath.
Please be merciful when it comes to my knowledge, I know very little about current theory's so if this has already been thought of, or proven wrong please let me know - we're here to discuss and expand our knowledge after all. It's probably why you came to this thread in the first place, so please do be polite.

Time is a slightly physical force, but how we perceive it depends on the brain. We know that time actually exists in the universe because of it's affect on things; look into General Relativity for more on that. Living things can speed up or slow down the perception of time using a kind of memory control- speed up your short-term memory, and it feels like time is moving faster.
