So I've been playing Morrowind and loving it. After what I'll refer to as a comical misadventure trying to get Morrowind Overhaul to work, I deleted it and reinstalled the game. For the most part, it works well, but things get wonky when I attempt to use a silt strider. I can't pay for the trip, and when I try, the screen goes black except for the UI. What is going on?

You may want to have a look at that.

It's basically a large patch made by a couple of modders that fixes a hell of a lot of issues with Morrowind.

The Bathesda patches only fixed a handful of problems, this patch fixes hundreds. As far as i'm aware it is compatible with the Overhaul (at least, I haven't found any problems so far).

It's commonly known that Elder Scrolls and the Fallout games are amazingly buggy but Morrowind and Fallout 3 suffered the worst in my opinion (try fixing Fallout 3 with the GECK ... I hated modding Fallout 3 and I hated it's GECK).

What Rawne1980 said. Also, make sure you're using Morrowind Code Patch. Morrowind Code Patch and Morrowind Patch Project are completely compatible, and since they both fix different things, you really should use both.

This is, of course, assuming you aren't going to attempt to get Overhaul working again. Overhaul contains both MCP and MPP, so if you use that, you're set.

Thanks very much! I assumed it was somehow related to my, erm, experience with the overhaul because googling "black screen Morrowind" only brought up results related to it. I'll download the code patch and see how it goes.

I'm guessing those results are related to a super common problem with Morrowind Graphics Extender (a main component of the Overhaul), and I have enough experience with that particular error to know that it is nothing like the bug you're experiencing. Now, I do want to add that I have no idea if unofficial patches will fix your error, but it's a good place to start, and you really should have the unofficial patches anyway, due to how much crap they fix.
