Reviews [https://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/mortal-kombat-11] have started to trickle out, and it looks like ?official? impressions will fall in line with MKX, for better or worse.

Hoping to have some time into it by this time tomorrow to find out for myself. For whoever else is getting it, please share your thoughts!

I want to get it for PC, but I don't think mine can handle it right now. I might have to get it on Xbox, cause I really don't want to 'wait' for this.

Biggest complaint seems to be the single player unlockables in the Towers of Time and Krypt involving lots of RNG and grinding. If the initial response is anything to go by, this will be patched for the better once they see how little people are playing those modes. It?s like these big publishers never learn; keep trying to sneak in the same old bs (Injustice 2 apparently had the same thing), and then having to double back to fix it all which wastes more time and money than they?d probably have ever gained in the first place.

Or they'll just open up the microtransaction store after release and reviews have passed, and price gouge the crap out of the players.

Gee, I wonder which one they'll go with?

Looking at impressions on Twitter, the latter.

Yeah... $6440 or 3390 hours of play, and keep in mind that's just the skins, not the randomised loot.

No most of them are just simple palette swaps, so unless someone is an insane completionist...pretty pointless. The issue is you should be able to locate the items you want, which it sounds like they?re making a patch [https://www.reddit.com/r/MortalKombat/comments/bgzm98/kombat_kast_recap_reworking_economy_improvements/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app] for. It will hopefully alleviate the absurd difficulty of towers and make the Krypt more rewarding and structured, but time will tell as to what extent.

More of an official statement here. [https://www.reddit.com/r/MortalKombat/comments/bh1wji/kombat_kast_summary/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app]

Yeah, definitely sounds like a redaction of sorts because any basic play testing could?ve concluded the same feelings as people have had, but at least they?re fixing it quickly.

Haven't played MK11, don't even own it. But I did watch the cutscenes on youtube.
This entitles me to an opinion, because shut up, I have poo and I'm not afraid to throw it.

Aaaaaaanyway, it's ok as far as fighting game stories go. Watching the writing bend over backwards to have two characters fight for the stupidest reasons never gets old either. Oh and they made young Johnny Cage so douchy. I mean, more so than usual. Amazing. Love it.

One thing tho. I get they want to escalate the stakes, but it's kind of getting silly, even by MK standards. Evil sorceror makes way for evil dimensional warlord, then evil deity of evil, now evil greater deity of time. Will we be pulling Azatoth's spine out through its nuclearly chaotic bumhole next?

I just got the trophy for Half Way Through! last night. So far my favorite party of it was a little incidental occurrence, where a bullet grazes 90?s Johnny Cage?s cheek, and it shows up as a scar on old Johnny. Thought that was pretty slick, but yeah...as for the main plot it?s basically like rummaging through an old storage chest trying to pull out the most relevant thing, and realizing none of it is as fresh and intriguing as you?d hope.

They need a new chest of drawers at the very least, but you can?t completely abandon fan favorites, so it involves carrying over x amount of bits and melding the two as best as possible. I think it?s supposed to be shlocky and tongue-in-cheek (right down to the special moves that pulverize your opponent mid match only to have them spring back up again no worse for wear), which helps stave off the fact that they?re ultimately still retreading old ground, only with a few new faces for good measure.

I?ve heard that they?re planning to support this game for years, which leads me to believe they?re putting the series to bed for a while. Personally I think it?s a great idea even though it yet again set a franchise record for sales. They should wipe the slate *almost* clean from a design standpoint, and make the fighting engine even more tactical than arcade-y. Give increased context and weight to the more violent moves so that they might be more difficult to pull off, but can also alter the course of a fight more.

Having said that, I love the new Krypt design from what I?ve seen, but am waiting til the patch and completing story mode with at least the original cast?s towers done before spending any koin.

Apparently that?s not technically the case. [https://kotaku.com/you-cant-actually-buy-your-way-out-of-mortal-kombat-11s-1834311465/amp]

Also from Ed Boon. [https://www.reddit.com/r/MortalKombat/comments/bh3jvk/ed_correcting_the_misinformation_probably_wouldnt/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app]

The thing is, people need to prioritize what they want most. If they want a bunch of generic skins that are nothing more than palette swaps, and they?re insane enough to go for it, then have at it (I have a funny feeling Netherrealm is possibly trolling the completionist types here). But for things that have a bit more significance there is a method to the madness [https://m.ign.com/wikis/mortal-kombat-11/Krypt_Walkthrough_and_Guide] in what items can help narrow the search. I?ve seen some places state the value of chests can also still determine what the contents are, and that skins cost roughly twice that of brutalities and fatalities; upwards of 14k-16k vs 6k-8k.

In any case yeah, it?s an insane grind to find it ?all?, and likely will continue to be even after a patch or two. However it appears to be by design after all. Guessing Netherrealm got tired of seeing how some people had the whole thing unlocked 20 minutes after release like the past games.

From Reddit [https://www.reddit.com/r/MortalKombat/comments/bhbtf2/how_to_optimize_your_koin_earnings_and_a_gear_xp/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app] on how to possibly lessen the grind. I?ve read that using Noob Saibot AI is the best all around for tougher fights, and respec?ing stats into reversals and combos seems to give the best chance of success.

I am bit late on this, but it's still useful. Looks like I'm done with WB (though the last game i touched from them was Lollipop Chain, and they were just publishers for that one) and most Western publishers in general. This also why I can't get interested in fighting games much anymore.

Is it that impossible to ignore purely cosmetic lootboxes dude?

If you and I can ignore the problem, so what? We're not the majority. Some people can't control themselves or have gambling issues. You should already know the answer to your question. It's always been the same. Do you choose to acknowledge it?

Edit:
Remember when it was fun to unlock costumes and not make it a long, tedious grin?
Remember when they weren't locked behind a paywall in a game that is already 60 bones?
Remember when games were about fun and not mobile gaming schemes?
Remember when characters that were in already established prior games not locked behind a DLC paywall?

I remember unlockables being obscenely bullshit difficult. Remember unlocking Mewtwo in Smash Bros Melee by leaving the game on 24 hours or playing 500 Vs Matches, and that's risking if you will lose the fight against Mewtwwo to unlock him? Don't get me started on Jax II and 3's unlockables.

I still think games are fun now.

Well sorry deadlines are a thing, and video game models are more sophisticated then ever. Right now in some cases it takes 3 types of actors to voice, animate, and model 1 video game character.

That's what I like to call making weak, *****-ass, excuses. If your making excuses and defending bullshit from the "AAAaaaaaaaeeee" industry, you are part of the problem. Because you sure as hell don't have a solution.

You have point about Melee, but not much else. I take that back, MK 11's is still worse by comparison The Jak series I don't know or care about. They're still more fun than the bullshit put out by WB, ActiBlizz, Ubisoft, EA, or 2K. There are fun games out there, that don't have the ugly crap those companies are constantly spewing.

You don?t care. Don?t get mad because others don?t share your aggressive apathy. The game is being made less fun. Fuck that.
