Well, that's who gets elected over there. I don't know that you can blame Australians for that any more than you can blame Americans for playing police everywhere.

When everyone running for office is a retard, your government is going to do retarded stuff.

There's a VERY good reason why I refer to Australia as "Gamer Hell". Broken rating system, and politicians using games as a scapegoat even more frequently than they do in the US.

I'm not surprised.

You were honestly expecting a game that sells it self on being violent as all hell to not be banned or censored to shit?

I dunno how many people here are Aussie, but from the E-mail I got from JBHIFI, MK9 is also banned from import.

"Dear Customers,

Thanks for pre-ordering Mortal Kombat. We?ve just been given some disappointing news from the distributor. The Office of Film and Literature Classification have made a unanimous ruling to ban Mortal Kombat for >>>>sale or import into Australia<<<<, as it is a unanimous decision we?ve been told they are unable to lodge an appeal. Unfortunately we will be cancelling your pre orders. We will keep your emails on file in case a modified version becomes available so we can notify you.

Kind Regards,
xxxxx"

And don't talk like it's easy to just get up and move from one country to another. Seriously.

Seriously. Just because people under 18 can't play it doesn't mean everybody else can't. Australia needs to understand that games are not just for children, and they should not be treated as simple children's toys.
And People Need To Stop Using the Word Australia To describe it

the fact is there was 80% support for the R rating to be introduced

But because for some mucked up reason in a democracy theres a single committy that must be unanimous to change the laws that govern the ratings system's. It's tied to those people and only those people.

and it's much easier for the christian's to taint one of them than all of the especially when they have one who's electorate is one of the few that is high in religious population(even though christians don't seem to be against it just there electorial representatives unfortunatly)

It's one of the reason's i wish we had referendum's on something's

But no only our govt gets to make decisions and normally they don't anyways

all banned games are banned from import. Otherwise it defeats the point because then the sale would merely have to take place overseas to allow anything in.

If customs were for whatever reason to search your bags or a parcel and found a banned game in it they are within their rights to take it from you.

The chance's of this happening are naught they have so many real crimes and stuff to find than a DVD with something that the govt doesn't want in childrens hands(because thats there argument)

Arg. That's annoying.

Although I can't get properly angry because I don't care in the slightest about that game.

So I guess I'm annoyed on principle.

As if 5000 poisonous animal species weren't enough reason to not live in Australia...

Aussies, your government is trying to tell you something! Move to the real world!

damn you all. Stupid Michael Atkinson he thinks that all games are for kids and i think i heard that that they where trying to get MA or R rating for the game. When will Michael Atkinson stop thinking that all game are for little kids even the code it say's "adults should be able to read, hear and see what they want" but there is no R18+ for games I HATE THIS SO MUCH RIGHT NOW.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU MICHAEL ATKINSON this is what he said about the matter "I don't support the introduction of an R18+ rating for electronic games, chiefly because it will greatly increase the risk of children and vulnerable adults being exposed to damaging images and messages." That is why they are called R18+ (Restricted) so that no-one under age buys the game. O and by the way "FINISH HIM" (i grab michael head and pull it of his body along with his spinal cord and throw it at the ground then turn around to see his body fall to the ground with boold spraying out of his neck) now that's what i call R18+

I'm tired of video games being treated differently than film and literature.

Michael Atkinson isn't an Attorney General anymore man, and for the record, it was the Liberal Party's new arsehead in WA who blocked the last attempt to revamp the ratings system with an R18+ rating.

Oh, Australia you did it again! You'd think a country famed for beer, barbeques and laying back would be, well too busy laying back at a barbeque drinking beer to get this worked up about a game.

This is just depressing. This was going to be the first fighting game I was actually looking forward to. The irony.... it stings.
THAT IS NOT IRONY!

Thank goodness I'm in the US, what's up with all this censoring? :p
This sentence is so laden with irony. I shall now go play my purchased-in-Australia copy of The Witcher, with boobies.

Seems Australia censors violence, not sex. While this is not an ideal state of affairs, it's at least more sensible than the other way around. Besides, it'll probably work out cheaper to import an uncensored overseas copy of Mortal Kombat than buy it here in Aus.
I mock you both from high atop my UK castle. We have violence and nudity in our games because our government, in this aspect at least, treats us like adults. Feel free to bow before my nation's superiority.

((Sorry if that seems like flame bait but thought I'd play to national stereotypes a bit. Seriously though your respective governments treat you like children when it comes to video games))

Apparently its because of the fatalities that it got banned. Even though deadly alliance, deception and shaolin monks all got through fine, and all feature damn violent fatalities. After splatterhouse got through I kind of thought we were done with this. God Damn It! Meh, I'll just import it.
