I purchased the new Mortal Kombat today, and I was wondering if anyone had some tips and tricks. This is the first time I've actually played the series, besides a few times at a friend's house. I'm really enjoying the game so far, but I didn't get that much from the tutorial. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Leg sweep and uppercuts are your new best friends, Also jumping and kicking is pretty effective.

just one:
never, ever get over there

but seriously, use plenty of special attack... worked for me (but since I pretty much suck at fighting games, you are advised to disregard my tips...)

Knowing which characters combos are good for countering certain attacks is a good thing.
Also Jump Kicking, Guard Countering, and grabs are always a good idea.

I've been playing it for since-it-came-out on my PS3 one, going as far as to trying a 10 hit combo with literally every character on the menu.

All I can say is this: Choose a character, but do not stick with it. The best way to do anything is to go into Practice Mode, memorize or write down the moveset, and just experiment. Otherwise you'll be like those guys on the Online part where they walk in with Smoke and Scorpion and believe they'll win everything by spamming, whereas I proceed to stab them with Mileena's 3rd alt.

My advice would be to try the story mode, it takes you through quite a few characters and gets you used to them, its also very well done and acted as well. Also if you are like me and rarely ever use the block function some fights in this game are going to make you hate life. Another thing is that a quick way to make a lot of Koins is to play the arcade mode on beginner and try and earn as many flawless victories in the first few rounds. Speaking of arcade mode one tip I can give you for the final matches in the arcade mode (Either Kintaro or Goro and Shao Kahn) is to spam the hell out of your ranged and or Teleportation attacks because being close to these mother fuckers is a death sentence, especially when they use their X-ray attacks. I'm not the best at these games so your mileage will vary, also the fatality tutorial is a handy tool for learning the muscle memory needed for them, I can pull off Reptile and Jade's fatalities without a thought.

Edit: also the Challenge Tower also helps familiarize you with certain concepts.

Also, if you're gonna go through Arcade mode for Koins to skip Challenges or beat the Krypt, I have an easy money trick called the 'Striker Bang Bang.'

For some reason, on the entirety of Beginner mode, the CPU doesn't understand how to dodge constant blasting of the face. If you time it right, you can Flawless the entire Arcade with Stryker's gun for craploads of cash. This is how I got the Krypt at 100%. Totally worth it.

You will play infinitely better if you have the techno "Test your might" song in the background.

also, Raiden...

NO, NO, DON'T RAIDEN.

Unless you're gonna actually use his combos and teleportation, instead of FLY FLY FLY like 99% of Kombatants...

Until you realize that anyone with a block button and teleporting skills can get past it?

That only works in Trilogy!

I tested my latest combo with Cyber Su- I mean Hidden Character Dude Person 50. And it was like 15 damned hits. So much fun.

Just take it slow and use protection (ie block) And remember your first fatality, its going to be the moment you become a man

It isn't like other fighting games where the fastest thinking always wins. You got to have a little strategy to it.

Well I use kitana but if you want easy wins, just use scorpion and block, spam X, and learn his teleport attack and your golden. Cheapest chareter out there right now.
