Although I was never around for the release of the first Mortal Kombat games I know that they stirred up quite a controversy.

I was recently playing the Mortal Kombat Demo (Which by the way is awesome if you haven't tried it) when my mother came into my room. She asked curiously, What are you playing I told her it was a remake of an older game. As she watched me beat up on Mileena she became angry.

She was very angry with me for beating up on a woman, a practically naked woman as well, and said i can't have that game. Unfortunately I didn't think before I spoke and said that i am 18 and she can't choose what I play, Haha bad mistake I guess.

Anyway she doesn't want me to have the game and unfortunately Mortal Kombat is once again angering mothers.

Just wondering if any of you older escapisties can give me some advice on how to get the latest edition of MK, without angering the mom.

Too late it seems

However to a point you are right you are 18. I would remind her that she has done a good job of raising you thus far.

Or you could play as milena and beat the crap out of some muscle bound meat heads?

You're 18, legally she can't stop you from buying it. Buy it, and if she doesn't like it then that's too bad.

You could get a job, move out of her house and into an apartment, and buy whatever the hell you want.

Not trying to be an ass or anything here, I didn't move out until I was 21, but that's pretty much how it is. While you're living under someone elses' roof, you're playing by their rules unless you're paying the bills.

What he said. You can buy it, but its still your parent's house, so they're rules. Unless your actually contributing(paying bills, fixing things, ect).

Her house, her rules. Respect your parents while you live with them, it makes them less likely to knife you in your sleep.

Just sit her down and explain to her that it's only a game, and (hopefully) not representative of some inner desire to commit horrible acts of violence. Be calm and reasonable about it. If she still won't let you have it after that, I guess you'll just have to go without it until you're either living on your own or you manage to change her mind.

Also, I gotta say, it gives me a warm feeling to know just how over-the-top violent and goofy this game is going to be. Call me a sucker for outdated gimmicks of the 1990's if you must, but hell, Mortal Kombat is dumb fun, and I'm glad to see it getting back to their roots. Let's hope this reboot doesn't get bogged down in hordes of mostly-identical characters and self-important storytelling.

Behind her back, of course. She has no legal right.
And he has no legal right that prevents her from kicking his backside out of her house.

Buy it. And if she takes it, sue her ass. Or, more effectively, explain how the game promotes equality. Its sexist of her to not allow both genders to fight equally. Call her out.

OT - Buy it and play it in your room where she doesn't have to watch it? That was my trick even when I was underage. It worked for Manhunt it should work for MK.

There's actually parents like this? Wow.

I was 10 when the first Mortal Kombat was released. I had a poster on my wall and everything and I'm a girl :<

My mom also hates violent games like mk (don't even get me started on my very religious dad...), but lucky for me she trusts my judgment and knows that I am not influenced by violence and if I like it then it's okay. So either it really offends her personally or she just hates violent games and doesn't trust your judgment; I don't want to jump to any conclusions about anyone here so just do this: reassure your mom that it was her good parenting that allows you to not be influenced by violent media, if you get her in a position where she is like my mom (doesn't like it but respects you enough to let you play it regardless) then you're good to go.

Taking a tempermental and extremist view on the thing does not make it right. The mother lacks the proper detachment to realize "It's just a flipping game." and that the OP is old and mature enough to handle it. SHE...is using an outdated view of women in the first place, and in no place are the sexes more equal than in Mortal Kombat, where everybody is trying to kill each other. That extreme, overrated, ridiculous retaliation is completely unethical and pointless. And it wouldn't even happen either.
