In your opinion, should they remake Mortal Kombat? Assuming they would use 100 times less corny dialogue, use much better fight choreography, and decent actors. Then again, assuming those things would make the question pretty one-sided.

Okay. Reformed question. Do you believe a remake of Mortal Kombat would go over well?

I'd rather see it based on UMK3. Stryker, Kabal, and Cyrax. Hellz yeah boyee!

It would be immediately successful (in the sense that many people will go watch it) if it focused on the special effects/fighting imo. I think if they do remake it they should ditch Liu Kang and having a deep, meaningful plot, and just go with some more kickass character (scorpion!) and stick to the killing.

I actually haven't fully watched any of the movies yet, so if a new one comes out I'll plan to watch it.

I agree. Using a main character like Liu Kang is just begging for crappy dialogue. Though there aren't many other options. Scorpion is for the most part a bad guy, or non-aligned, it would change the mood of the games and movies entirely to use him as a main character. It is possible, but it would be a drastic change in mood.

Yeah, I think it'd be better just create a totally new IP.

Also, welcome to the Escapist.... I think?
Haha, thanks. It is my first post in the forums, but I've been watching Yahtzee religiously for a long time. I figured I might as well explore this site a little more, I didn't want to treat it like a Yahtzee whore.

If they made another game I would buy it. But if they made another movie? I would definitely have to go into it with massive skepticism thanks to Mortal Kombat Annihilation.

Oh, I thought you were meaning a new, reborn MK game similar to how Street Fighter IV rejuvenated the 2D fighter. I would be all for that.

But the movies were kinda meh, and I wouldn't really care for a remake. Maybe a whole new movie, with a decent plot and that.

I hated MK. As far as fighting games go, I think combos should be easy to remember and execute.
Who wants to remember moves that go forward forward forward down b or some shite like that?

The gameplay was fine, but I like the SF system better, where all the moves are essentially quarter circle + button. It makes the learning curve a lot less steep. I could never get into MK for that reason. Couldn't be bothered to memorize the weird button combos.

Yeah, I'd love for them to re-boot the movie series. The first movie was okay, just the second was shit. I think they should have another crack at it. The movie could be pretty good or at least average with the right direction. The story line is pretty much enter the dragon with super powers and gorey kills. Give it an 18 rating, get some good martial arts choreographers and try to make a competent plot between the fighting... there you go a decent movie.

I still like the original movie. Whether it's a guilty pleasure or not I still enjoy it. I would love to see another MK movie but not a remake. Just another flick.
