I've been a fan of Mortal Kombat since the mid-90's from when I was 4/5 years old. I remember playing Mortal Kombat 2 on the SNES with my brothers and the various games over the years. Same as the shows, films etc. Something about the story and universe has just always really appealed to me and it's a very important franchise to me as a person.
I've been playing it just over a week now and it's lived up to expectations, it's definitely the best game the series has ever put out. I just finished the Challenge Tower this morning as well, so I just need to do Arcade ladder with some more characters, find secret fights and try to get trophies (which I don't normally sweat over, but the game is fun so it'd be cool to platinum it). I hope I find more people in Australia that play the game, it's a shame it will never enjoy the following here that it would've had otherwise.
My only real complaints about the game is how annoyingly cheap the bosses can be and the fact that the Krypt was very underwhelming and didn't require much effort to complete. The unlockables needed some major work (300 challenges and I get a pointless Mileena costume? Come on guys). Overall though this doesn't get in the way of the many positives and they put a great deal of effort into it, delivering a solid experience and the best fighter I've ever played.
I'm also really glad that the Arcade collection is coming out soon, looks like I'll be doing more trophy hunting and re-living some great nostalgia with it. It's not as if the 3d games were bad as such, they just never really felt like they hit their mark to me. I really enjoyed the content of them though and all the little bonuses they threw in, but I was never crazy about them.
Can't wait to see what they do with the next installment, which will inevitably happen in 2-3 years I expect.
