of the non-mmorpg variety? probably peggle or something. probably world of warcraft for the mmo variety though, and 11 (or whatever) million crackhead-equivalent players out there would probably agree. i've taken year long breaks from that game, then gotten right back into playing it 8+ hours a day on my first re-load. (currently wow free for 2 months)

allthough, i remember playing super mario kart on the SNES for about 5-8 hours a day for months and months after i first recieved that game for my 6th birthday way back when.
See Ive never really had that trouble with wow. Ive never turned down going out with friends to play wow, maybe delayed a little to finish X boss or if im in the middle of an arena match. But I have before now "DCed" on my guild so I could go out.

SI. God SI. Ive ended nights early to get back in time for my fleets or not gone out at all. :S

Side now, Im hoping I just quite wow. Less than a week. We'll see how it goes. My main focus for going back atm is Im not used to having so much goddamn free time. I dont know what to do with it.

Oblivion, Fallout 3, and for some odd reason Mercenaries 2. I've played Mercenaries 2 over and over again and yet I can't place what it is that appeals to me. :/

Civilization IV
It's the only game that I've played for 7+ hours straight (but only once).

Disagaea: Afternoon of Darkness (the PSP version).

I just kept playing and playing and playing... There was so much growing to be done. I would think I was high-leveled and then a new "secret" boss would reveal itself and that one would ridiculously outclass me, so I strived to be even stronger!

Making it all the way to level 9999 is just so...ridiculous.

Plant vs. Zombies. And half of it is just staring at the zombies getting mowed down by the plants!

Morrowind. It was the way the map painted in the areas you visited. I just had to have the whole map colored in. Every single meter of it.

:) that just reminded me of a joke a friend told me

HaHha Earthling's, we have come to your planet, destroyed you governments and neutralised your military. Now your only chance of survival is to play our champion at our most sacred game! Bejeweled Blitz!

Some time later.

Wait what! How could this happen! What do you people do all day!?

Some of these I can most certainly agree with, e.g., Disgaea, where I feel the overwhelming urge to make a little party member based on a tabletop character I had forever ago and breed them into a killing machine before deciding he needs a fwiend, and so on, and so on.Also: PATA PATA PON PON.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and A2 (they're essentially the same game). Leveling up and acquiring new skills has never been so fulfilling as it was in these games. Each of these may as well have been crack to me for about seven months.

Mindwalker on amiga 500 (also the first game on the platform). Semi-random infinite environment ftw :)

10 years later, I found out I never went beyond the first level despite the years of playing it. Epic fail :-D
