Most Annoying Movie Cliches

Or: The only contrasting colours that don't suck. (Purple/yellow, meh... Red/green, too Christmassy and REALLY bad looking)

Ever notice that in every Disney movie (and other cartoons), the bad guy has a big nose, dark extremely-arched eyebrows, is either extremely skinny or very bulky, and usually dark hair? wtf? I can pick out the bad guy within seconds of seeing him every time.
This might be because they're made for kids though. But Pixar doesn't seem to have this problem.

In other movies, like others said, I hate that everything seems to take place conveniently by a major landmark. Always, always, always the Eiffel tower or the Golden Gate bridge or the Statue of Liberty. For crying out loud, film somewhere else!

That's not a cliché, it's a marketing strategy. The colours complement each other, and are appealing/eye-catching.

The protagonist finally defeats the antagonist that hes been fighting th ewhole movie and then suddenly has a change of heart and either lets him go or can't kill him

I can't stand the punishment reversal anymore...even when it's done as a joke.
You know, the:
"Bob, in all my years I've never seen a more self centered, egotistical, immature asshole who is so completely the opposite of what we need here at awesomecorp....and that's why I'm promoting you to vice president!"

Explosives or Fireworks demonstrated to be less dangerous than they actually are

Ah-HA! This one bugs me too. One of these days, I'd like to see an explosion in a tunnel just wreck somebody with the concussive force that it should have when its channeled through a narrow space...not give somebody an opportunity to OUTRUN FIRE and then dive heroically out of the way.

Ah-HA! This one bugs me too. One of these days, I'd like to see an explosion in a tunnel just wreck somebody with the concussive force that it should have when its channeled through a narrow space...not give somebody an opportunity to OUTRUN FIRE and then dive heroically out of the way.

It's true that there's a shockwave of air that pushes stuff out of the way that emanates from explosions. It's the reason why thick metal is ripped into festive junkyard confetti. But it doesn't just push you over like a jerk in real life, the pressure wave can be equal to hundreds of thousands of tons per square inch. Think Superman using the USS Texas as a golf club to whack against your poor meatbag head in terms of scale, except all over the side of your body facing the explosion.

Most of the stuff in this, even if The Social Network did seem to conform to most of them and I really enjoyed that...

Maybe that's why I like Quantum of Solace so much.

I hate the over-use of adrenaline/bullet time (both in movies and games) It was kinda cool in the Matrix and in Max Payne 1 & 2, but now it's just a pain to watch except for in small doses.
And the wise-cracking black guy sidekick/ partner against the serious white guy gets annoying. Though I don't mind it as much when both characters are wise-cracking.

I can only think of people in zombie movies who are not savvy of zombie functions. WE HAVE A CULTURE SURROUNDING IT! GET WITH THE PROGRAM OR OM NOM NOM NOM!!

So boring. Why do you even like her, interesting male protagonist? It taints your character because you look shallow when you're obviously after her because of her looks. She might be kind of sweet, but she's vapid.

I'm also tired of that really deep american male voice they have in trailers to make the movie seem like it's going to be epic. I don't know why, I'm just tired of it.

Sounds in space. Explosions, lasers, engines, "Whooshes." Firefly was the only one I can remember that did these things properly.

Also, every god-damn American action god-damn movie needs to have some one use "god-damn" at least once god-damnit.

Somehow, one of my favourite films actually uses that. And no, I can't tell you which one it is, because that would be spoiling, my dear children.

A. It was probably before "it was a dream" was a cliche. Although, it actually can be used quite well even now. It is stupid in an action movie or something like that. It needs to be in a coming-of-age story. Those are really the only place it works

B. This is why God invented spoiler tags

- The Hero dies heroically, only to be brought back to life.
- The Villain being defeated somehow solves whatever underlying problem brought on the conflict as well as instantly restoring the world to it's pristine glory. Somehow.
- The Heroine suddenly losing her abilities and being kidnapped solely so the Hero can rescue her. Or vice versa.
- Almost any pop cultural reference.

The "hot chick" or "hot guy" always either being evil or dying first/being stupid.

When in a fight you know who will win based on attractiveness and/or whether they are wearing a hat/helmet/mask.

Aside from played out archetypes, i.e. the mentor of the film dying, or the hero being a common nobody at first, I'm really tired of pop culture references.

Yeah... so those dozens of henchmen fodder I killed to get to the Big Bad don't count for anything then, huh?

Oh, look! After our long struggle and hardships, we're right at our goal here. Let's stand around and congratulate each other for the next ten minutes instead of stepping through the portal/destroying the evil thing/actually finishing our quest/etc. OH NOES! The bad guys got here and ruined everything while we were standing around like idiots.
