Please. I'd like to see them take down even a single company of Space Wolves, nevermind the rest of the Astartes.

Besides, the Sororitas and the Ecclesiarchy are going to get a little bit of a shock when the Emperor wakes up and they realise that he is not, in fact, a God but rather a man.

A badass Chaos slaughtering man with which 'superhuman' is an understatement, but a man nonetheless.

On-topic: Simo Hayha from that cracked article. However, I remember a similar story where it was a Russian sniper...
But since it was against Russians it's just my brain screwing with the minor details.(easily fixed by getting the correct details, like now)
There was a russian like that in Stalingrad who you might be thinking about. Enemy at the gates is based on him but falls way below what he actually did.

OT: modern SAS no question about it.

Historical: The Vikings or Mongols. The British at Agincourt get a mention too.

The following groups of australian soldiers:
35th Batallion AIF (Villers-Bretonneux, WW1)
39th Batallion AMF (Kakoda, WW2)
D company of 6RAR (Long Tan, Vietnam)
The SASR (for obvious reasons)

Those guys love impossible odds.
Let's not forget the 9th Division at Tobruk who repeatedly kicked Rommel's arse.

Got a couple:
The british Longbowmen who fort at Azincourt (I refuse to spell it Agincourt, it's a z goddammit). Charging armoured knights in full plate mail when unarmoured and armed with a poleaxe as a melee weapon at best is pretty crazy.
I remember watching a doco that suggested that the longbowmen probably didn?t do that much and that it was more the wet muddy ground seriously impeding all the guys in heavy armour while not affecting the ones wearing not much more than a shirt and pants

Oh and the actually contribute to the topic ? roman legionnaires

*cough* He is actually a warp creature. So technically he is a daemon of chaos. Aint that one big ol mind fuck. But yeah, he is gonna be soo maaaaaad at the entire Imperium when he comes back.
I think it'd be similar to what would happen if Jesus ever came down to Earth.

Just a big ol' "What the fuck guys? Seriously? I leave you alone for a few years and you do this? God dammit Leeroy Jenkins...god dammit."

And a warp creature? That's the first I've heard of it. I'm not a 40K fanatic but I like to think I know a moderate amount of the lore behind it. Moreso than your average person anyway but it's still news to me. Source plx! Plxplx. plx. plxplx.

I must say I'm surprised no one has mentioned the French Foreign Legion. Speaking in manners of talent, they are the richest in the world, as an example, a group can consist of one mountin-trooper from Germany, two attachdivers from Brittain, one paratrooper from Sweden and the list goes on. Ain't that beautiful?

Listen not to detract from Finlands impact on the Eastern front but .... the Fins didnt kill anyone Finland did. Extreme weather & conscript Russian troops took its toll and probably accounted for most of the deaths. Its a real impressive number but doesnt indicate fighting vigour or strength in any way.

read what one Finnish man did on that list, and say that again
I'm still wondering how he had over 550 bullets anyway.. I mean you don't go in the woods expecting to kill over 800 russians >.<

+ lets not forget the Soviet snipers:

Mikhail Surkov ( 702 kills)
Ivan Sidorenko ( ~500 kills)
Fyodor Matveyevich Okhlopkov ( 429 kills)
Vasily Grigoryevich Zaitsev ( 400 kills)
Lyudmila Pavlichenko ( 309 kills)
Nina Alexeyevna Lobkovskaya ( 308 kills)

Meh, recently started reading a bit on 40k lore, and started with the Adepta Sororitas.
Sororitas and Astartes are the only 2 names I actually managed to remember :(

A) It's not like he did it in a day, he had plenty of contact with the Finnish army, they would have given him ammo.
B) Those snipers were posted if different areas and times. The majority of amazing Russian snipers emerged at Stalingrad.

Psh. The Astartes answer to no one but the All Father and their Primarch. Not the Inquisition, not the Ecclesiarchy, not the Imperial Guard.

This. The guy was a beast in human form. The Finnish in general had some really badass fighters during WW2.
While it took place at the same time, the Winter war isn't actually considered a theatre of WWII.

All of the primarchs are either damned, lost, or dead, and His Holiness is but a mere rotting husk of a man. The Astartes cower under the Inquisition, as everyone else in the Imperium would. Only the Inquisition could order the complete Exterminatus of an entire system by simply licking the dirt and shouting "HERESAY!"

Russ isn't lost. He's just absent at the moment. He's in the Eye of Terror with the 13th Company. He'll be back when he needs to be. The 13th Company isn't 'lost' either, they met Ragnar Blackmane during the battle on the mirror-world of Charys.

Guilliman, Primarch of the Ultramrines isn't dead, just in stasis. He's meant to be healing as well, so it's likely we'll see him return before too long. He was the high commander of the Astartes forces as well, so he's definitely a force to be reckoned with.

Lion El'Jonson of the Dark Angels is similarly asleep as well until he's needed.

As for the All Father, his throne is weakening, which means we'll likely see him emerging once more to bitchslap the Inquisition for not following his instructions properly.

The Inquisition couldn't hope to stand against the full might of the Astartes no matter how much they might want to. They'd never risk open warfare. Such an act would be tantamount to suicide.

But what does that matter, the necrons are going to annihilate every living creature in the galaxy.
