When Duke Nukem/Cole Train Can take down a device the size of a small planet, designed to wipe out all sentient life in the galaxy, a couple of alien GODS and face and beat a Gravemind AT LEAST TWICE... and survive, Then, and only Then, will anyone beat him. John was so far beyond badass he coulda made a frickin religion out of it.

EDIT: Not to mention invading the capital city-ship of the enemy one-handed and getting away without a scratch, and the thousands of covenant he killed, and all the vehicles and Space Cruisers too. And the Flood, who in their own parasitical way are pretty badass. And the Arbiter is badass too. And the Sergeant in Halo Wars who kicked the old-arbiters ass and still lived to successfully blow up a sun INSIDE a planet (forerunner shield world). Yes, Halo Fanboy here.

Nah. Doesn't work that way. Besides, poorly photo-shopped pics do NOT count. It looks less like Master Chief stabbing Gordon and more like the barnacle is impaling both of them. Points to Half-Life. ;)

That honestly makes no sense. Halo wins because you play it longer (Multiplayer, Forge, Firefight, AND Campaign)

Half-life just has loading screens and a physics engine (And the gravity gun but then Halo has the gravity hammer)

To prevent people from attacking me, lets just say they are both awesome. K?

I simply don't understand how people can think Kratos is badass. I mean, he certainly has the bad part down, and he is definitely an ass, but he's just not a badass.

Being badass requires more than just dumb muscle, it requires virtues, like bravery. If you're a dead-inside, death-seeking, or reckless beyond rational logic, you're not brave, you're just a mindless killing machine.

I have to agree with this.

I've noticed a lot of folk refer to some game characters as badass, but in reality their nothing more than selfish massive cunts. Extra Credits did a great deconstruction of Kratos and by second and third they label him, aptly, an 'evil git with no redeeming qualities.'

Characters such as Master Chief, Duke Nukem and Gordon Freeman are all Badass to me because they're out to save the day and do it in the most amazing way possible with no questions asked.

Also, inb4 John Marston is badass, because he's not. He's a whiny ***** who works for the government and everyone else he meets despite them constantly lying to him, while his family has been kidnapped. Badass would be not doing any of those tasks, but rather tracking his family before the agents realise he has gone rogue, much like Arnie in Commando. But that wouldn't really work with the redemption aspect of the story...

OT: I consider badass to be based on how far a character goes based on skill rather than abilities. Therefore, I nominate that guy from I Wanna Be the Guy.

You may play it longer, but not everyone else does. I've invested maybe 1/100th the time in Halo related games then I have in Half-Life related games. Especially since the multiplayer in Halo is rather bland and boring.

You can't start a rather obvious flame attempt and then say, "Don't attack me!" That is exactly what you want.

Also, comparing the gravity gun to the gravity hammer? [muffled laugh]

I can't shake the feeling this is all coming from someone that is currently enamored with Reach and the undeserved monstrosity of a hype machine built up around it. I won't knock someone for liking a game I don't, but saying the reason your game of choice is "better" is because it has a campaign mode and multplayer mode and that mine is worse because it has "load screens" is laughable at best.

Still, I'll play along.

Both have singleplayer campaigns. One would argue, however, that one that's designed solely to tell a good story as opposed to being as straight forward as possible so they can add co-op players with ease makes for a better tale.

Halo may have Forge, but Half-Life fans have had Garry's Mod for years and it's still the quintessential sand-box game. Anyone that's played it wouldn't argue that.

Firefight is pretty much nothing more than a clone of Gears of War's Horde mode or Left 4 Dead's Survival mode.

Okay. Rant's gone on long enough. The last thing I want to do is derail this hilarious thread any further.

Sonic Unleashed. Say what you will, the daytime levels were pure awesomeness. Sonic Colors should be even better.
