Shrine of Armana, DS2. Hands down. OMFG. Shrine of Armana looks down on Blighttown and says sit down, son.

Gota disagree with that, shrine is super easy with a bow/crossbow or even soul arrow+binocs, even then if you are pure melee you can just rush the casters, the only problem i have with shrine is the water everywhere makes dodging a little slugish but not a big deal if you pull small groups.

If were talking original dark souls i'd say the gauntlet that is anor londo archers is pretty daunting every time, gota run, but you can't just rush straight as you have to stop and dodge the arrows from behind and the front, then you gota parry the dude on the ledge to get past, which is easy enough but pretty nerve racking if you miss it. When you finaly make it some one invades you before you reach the bonfire.

For souls 2 i'd say the black gulch, the tar pit monsters, worms that smash out of the walls and knock you clear of the ledge, the damn poison spitting statues, multiple npc invaders and if you don't access the hidden bonfire running that whole section can be a nuiscence.

just my experiance.

As for blighttown, heavily overrated, once you've got the route down it becomes very easy even if you enter from the sewers rather than the new londo lift.

Shrine of Armana... you cannot see your fucking feet. And every step might be your last because there are random holes under the opaque water that will equal death. The whole fucking zone. Every step is a gamble with your life. Winner and still champion of the asshole award for the entire game series, IMO. Fuck that place.

Use a torch to light up the floor, or just stick to areas with clear outcroppings of land or rock. Job done.

Anor Londo. It has Ornstein and Smough, and it has those Archer Knights on the archway.

Considering the main thing that keeps me from replaying Dark Souls 1 is that part, thats my answer. Unless I can say "All of Dark Souls 2" as my answer.

Demon's Souls: Valley of Defilement is pretty unpleasant. I never found it all that difficult, but it's just a total slog getting through there. Area one isn't so bad but area two where you have to deal with the swamp and the mosquitoes and the giant depraved ones, Christ, what a pain. Area two of Stonefang Tunnel is pretty crappy if you take the long way around. I never managed to complete it that way. I got lost in the tunnels. Fortunately the alternate path is pretty easy.

Dark Souls has quite a few shitty areas, Blight Town, Depths, New Londo, Catacombs, Tomb of the Giants. But you can speed through them all pretty quickly once you know what you're doing. On my first playthrough though they were all pretty harrowing.

Dark Souls 2: Frigid Outskirts. Fuck that place. Never completed it and never will.

Assuming you don't have the brightness too low you can see where the ground is. You do have to pay attention though.

It's an expected answer, but Blight Town without a doubt. First you have the terrifyingly precarious trek down to the bottom and then you realize that that was the easy part. Add what in my opinion is the most oppressive atmosphere in the series and baby you got a horribly poisonous stew going.

The Anor Londo Archers. Once you get good at dodgerolling, though, it isn't as hard. It doesn't help that the boss(es) of the area are some of the hardest in the entire game.

Alternatively, the Blue Smelter demon corridor in the tower of ash. Christ, that was hell.

Honorable mention goes to the frigid outskirts.

Haven recently completed DS2 I have to say that the Shrine of Amana was one of its weakest points that drove me insane, but personally I wouldn't say that it was the most demoralising of the Dark Souls games. Hell, in "Dark Souls 2" (at least Scholar version), the Iron Keep was probably the one that destroyed my spirit and took away my courage. Anyone who has been to that zone knows why.

For me, the most demoralising zone is The Lost Izalith. It demoralised and then disintegrated me. It also doesn't help that the worst boss in the game is at the end of it, and you have to do a big trek back through a shortcut which has an enemy that can one shot you. I'm left confused and broken.

Yeah, pretty much my answer - Lost Izalith was just... god awful to get through, and the shittiness of Bed of Chaos was an awful capstone to the whole endeavor. At least with a lot of the other shitty areas you got a sweet boss at the end, but... yeah, fuck that place.

Lost Izalith is a good one, now that I'm reminded of it. Just a lot of empty, repeated enemies. Felt like you stumbled into some half-finished piece of content that wasn't meant to be accessible.

Though in aggravating terms, Ds3 Upper Boreal Valley/Anor Londo. Combine incessant 3 on 1 invasions with various annoying enemies like Giants, pyromancers up on a ledge shooting at you, then segueing into the return of Anor Londo archers.

There is a secret bonfire in the second of those two giant stone pillar things. Hit the wall facing toward where the Bed of Chaos is, across that log tube to get up there.

I mean, it sounds like irrelevant info to you now, but still.

When I next do a run of the game I'll remember that. On my last run I think I only died three times to the Bed of Chaos, but anything to reduce my time in the Lost Izalith is welcome.

For me, Blighttown for obvious reasons and Tomb of the Giants for the darkness , the monsters and that ****ing black knight down there. I also have no love for Sens Fortress either.

Also, screw the Bed of Chaos. That encounter is badly put together and it feels shitty that while the creator apparently apologized for it, he didn't fix it in either one of the patches or the DLC.

I've read that Lost Izalith pretty much was unfinished, or at least not to the degree of the rest of the game.

Last paragraph

As good as any Dark Souls entry might be overall, the unfinished, misguided, or simply redundant elements are why I consider Demon's Souls the true classic.

I've only ever played Demon's Souls and while I haven't yet finished it, I can say that The Tower of Latria was really demoralizing for me. I first went there after killing bosses like The Adjucator, Phallanx, and (actually impressively) Flamelurker so I was feeling pretty good about walking into the Tower...then I meet a squid-headed mage who killed me in seconds. Then it happened again...and again...and again. I started getting past them but it was still really demoralizing for me from a gameplay standpoint.

Wow, why is no one saying Sen's Fortress??

Always annoying, even when you know what you are doing. I hate going through there.

Blighttown, you can skip the top part so no big deal.
Lost Izalith is easy, minus the piece of shit boss.
Tomb of the Giants is also pretty easy to navigate on repeat playthroughs.

Sen's always is a chore. No shortcuts. No easy way. You just gotta do it.
