Hallelujah is a beautiful song, but it isn't depressing for me.

For reference, seek out 'I Hate Myself and Want to Die.' It's a fantastic book listing the 52 most depressing songs ever. Well worth a read. The number one song according to this book is

The Christmas Shoes.

Seriously, it's depressing in the way that makes people genuinely commit suicide.
Dude that song IS goddamn depressing, but I've never wanted to hurt myself over it....it's a song...
I'm sorry, one moment

[/sarcam]

I forget that I should add this to every one of my posts.
Eh one of the larger problems of the internet, infelction doesn't carry over well so if one says something in a certain way, it may not be read the same way, my bad though should have caught that sarcasim. lol

Puff the Magic Dragon.

No, seriously, that's a sad song, man. Not in the drowning puppies way, man. But sad like "the end of Ol' Yeller" sad. I mean, if you don't read it like a bunch of drug references and stuff.

Everything You Ever from Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog. Just the situation from which the song arises is so beautifully done, and the song really encapsulates the whole of the story. It's a great moment.

THIS THREAD HAS BEEN DONE BEFORE!!! USE THE SEARCH BAR!!! IT'S YOUR FRIEND!!!
[small]OK, now that's out of our system, on with the thread![/small][hr]

I just want to know this: what do you think is the most depressing song in the world?

It doesn't even have to be a technically "sad song," the only qualification for entry is that hearing it makes you want to dorwn orphan puppies......

[small]....................................how sad....................................[/small]

Here are some of my picks:

[small]WARNING: the lyrics in this next song are so sad, they've been known to trigger suicide...in PUPPIES...[/small]

Hardrock, thanx. I have been trying to figure out who sings the Hallelujah song forever!!!

as far as me, NIN Hurt.

I think it changes with my mood, but right now "Keep on Rockin' In the Free World" By Neil Young is pretty depressing, and basically everything by Godspeed! You Black Emperor simply because it's composed in that way that makes me go "wah".

Oh yeah, the soundtrack to Requiem for a Dream. I mean, it sounds upsetting enough, just wait until you connect the music with some other context... I'm getting disconsolate just thinking about it.

Personally one of the most depressing songs that I know is Green Fields of France. I was introduced to this song by The Dropkick Murphy's. To anyone with a basic knowledge of history will defiantly find this song as a good tribute to them. I its also rather sad. Everytime I listen to it I cry. So enjoy.

This is the song that played at the end of House, M.D. S5E20, during the funeral. That scene alone was powerful enough to make me sad, but when I actually paid attention to the lyrics, I was reminded of the few significant losses I've suffered over the last years and it just wrenched my heart out. I had stoically taken all the crap life had thrown at me, but at that moment the gates were torn down and I cried for hours.

On topic; Led Zeppelin's No Quarter and Alice In Chain's Love, Hate, Love. The music and lyrics work perfectly together for the mood in both songs.

I try to avoid sad songs, but this one sends me into that special kind of funk you get whenever the world seems like a dark, foreboding place.
