I never really saw the attraction in that version of Mad World tbh. I generally don't like covers of stuff like this, just because I think it looses something to just be singing someone elses sentiments. Needs to be original to make the cut for me.

The johnny cash version of hurt is kinda different I guess, since he has a whole catalog of sad stuff.
So, just because it's a cover of the original means that it can't hold significance or emotional value? I still think it's pretty sad, even if the video doesn't make much sense. Jules' voice makes it sound pretty depressing.

I wasn't even aware it was a cover. I thought that was the original.
You were wrong. *bows* You're welcome. The original was Tears for Fears.

And yes, if you didn't write it, you don't get it. Sorry guys.

I do believe that your entire perception on what somebody "gets" and what somebody doesn't "get" is completely different from person to person. I'd never even heard of the original song, considering the fact that I had believed it wasn't a cover.

Not knowing this, I still believe that Jules' version is quite sad, regardless of what your omnipotent stance regarding song covers is. What a misconstrued way of going about understanding song lyrics.

"If you didn't write it, you don't get it."

If any of us here on the Escapist could figure it out, I'm sure Jules did when he performed the song.

I'm surprised no one has said this yet.

Also Snuff by Slipknot, bother by Stone Sour, Cancer by My Chemical Romance and Suicide Season by Bring Me The Horizon
I read through 4 pages wondering why hasn't anybody mentioned evanescence 2albums they are all depression related songs, though I do not know any of the songs mentioned except for mad world, and I don agree that is is a good choice, regardless of the original artist, the lyrics alone are enough.

Deep Purple's Soldier of Fortune never ceases to amaze me.
So beautiful, powerful and yet fragile.
