Most disappointing book sequels

Title says it all really. Has there been a book series that you liked that started to phone it in or just lose the spark with its sequels.

For me, the series is a sci fi/fantasy series called Dungeon. There were six books and each book was written by a different author so there was an interesting blend in writing styles as the series went on. Number 4 and 5 still stand as two of my favourite books of all time - with great character progression and a deep involving storyline. Then came book 6.

Book 6 defecated all over the previous five, with the plot written in a "and then he went here, and then they did that, and then she laughed" type style; killed off one of the most interesting characters in a page with a pointless "it turns out he was a demon all along" ending and had one of the most bizare endings of all time.

Sorry for the rant'll. But I really liked that series.

Wolves of the Calla from The Dark Tower series.

Over seven hundred pages of anticipation...for a five page battle.

Loved the Callahan side story though. Also seeing them interact with normal people was a great touch.

Pillars of Creation wasn't exactly my favorite book in the Sword of Truth series. I didn't think it was particularly bad, or even particularly mediocre, but it just felt so out of place. Several books into the series, and all of a sudden the focus of an entire book falls on a brand-spanking-new character and a less eventful story. Argh.

I'm not sure if it counts but the extra final chapter to A Clockwork Orange, I'm glad they left it out of the finished book. The fourth Maximum Ride book, it sucked, big time.

For met, that series sort of imploded after Faith of The Fallen. Jensen was an awful character and the whole Chainfire plotline was dragged out far too long.

Legacy of the Force: Invincible. After the MASSIVE buildup we got in the last eight books, it ends with a genocidal terrorist becoming chief of the alliance, and two twins having a ***** slapping contest on a conveyor belt.

The fourth Maximum Ride book, it sucked, big time.

I didnt even read the fourth one, they wrapped it up quite nicely at the end of the third so I just accepted that book as the end and refused to read the rest.

OT: The amber spyglass. It wasnt bad, it was just way too different from the other two.

I really loved the first Maximum Ride book, but I had to stop about two chapters into the second one because it was so unbelievably bad. Seriously, he set up the rest of the series so well with the first book, and then turned it into a retarded little kid action popcorn series. Ugh.

Hell's Heroes, the tenth and final book in the Demonata series by Darren Shan. Awesome series but the conclusion was just meh.

I'd agree with this. After 4 it lost the light, kooky, enjoyable magic world charm it had going for it.

I would argue the last chapter was there for a reason. It was the chapter that gave the book a reason. It was about Alex growing up and stopping being a impetuous little dick, not him being on a quest to get his freedom and urge to kill back. Also I would argue all the maximum ride books sucked, it was the same thing over and over "oh we just barely escaped we are safe now -> *clue to history* (optional) -> oh no we are ambushed *FLEE* -> oh we just barely escaped we are safe now -> oh no we are ambushed *FLEE*" and so on. Also the first person thing was a pain in my eyes to read, I rarely have seen it done properly outside of the Nightwatch series.

Card seems to keep going back to the Ender well with lesser and lesser returns, moving from science through philosophy and more and more into plain politics.
Also, can you take a novel, revise it (badly, IMO), and slap the Hugo and Nebula awards the original won on the cover? Is that legal?
