Moral Orel Season 3 Episode 4 "Alone"
Decided to look into it out of curiousity and found a reasonably high quality video of the episode....punch in the gut was an understatement.

"Return the slab...or suffer my curse..."

Courage the Cowardly Dog was full of episodes like that, but that one was by far the most disturbing to my fragile young mind.

There's this fantastic Finnish drama series. It's very realistic and emotionally loaded with handling real issues with a cloud of abhorrence-of-reality hovering over and inside it. It also has a peculiar ironic and funny look on life, so it isn't all that bad.

There is a scene in one episode where a man is really drunk, depressed and angry and carries a guinea pig in a plastic bag. Some event breaks the camel's neck or he just snaps and swingingly smashes and hacks the bag repeatedly on a glass door until there's blood splattered on the door and he breaks down on his knees crying. And I think it was his child's pet.

Not sure if it was exactly like that, but that's how I remember it. One of the most emotional scenes on TV. I remember getting angry and sad over that.

Charlie Brooker's Black Mirror stuff - all of it was freaky as shit. One of the episodes had an X Factor style show, where one talented woman got on but was deemed better off in porn. Seriously freaky and depressing. Anyone else see this?
Yeah, I remember that. It was brilliant for its nihilism in that regard, particularly that episode. Although every episode was a little beyond the realms of believability, I do remember a quote from Charlie Brooker about The National Anthem, the episode with the Prime Minister, a pig and a rather unsavoury act. He mentioned that day when Gordon Brown insulted that women on the campaign trail after he forgot to turn his microphone off, and was basically forced to apologise to her by the media and the public. To what level can mob rule control someone in the public eye?

The Courage the Cowardly Dog episode with that innocent girl playing the violin, who turns around and starts screaming. I was 8 at the time, never have I turned off my TV as quickly as I did when watching that episode. I forgot what it was about, I just remember that screaming girl's face...

I will point to Superjail! on Adult Swim. Of so far, only two seasons, it has one episode that not only is almost completely unfunny (It's ultra violence is a selling point of comedy by being so fast and that it happens to rather expendable seeming prisoners), which would be "Dream Machine".

The show already looks like a bloody-graphic version of Willy Wonka, but in "Dream-Machine", it approaches actual dream psychology in parts, and one is kind of heartwarming (Jailbot is the only one), the rest are what I assume a bad acid trip feels like, and until the very end is there a laugh. Short of that, I can watch it, but it's probably the most uncomfortable episode I have watched of any show (but I don't watch much TV).

Invader Zim is one of my favorite animated series, and anyone who watched it knows that Jhonen Vasquez is one twisted individual. Most people look to the episode "Dark Harvest" as the darkest, with all the organ stealing.

However, the episode that freaked me when I was a kid was the Halloween episode. Jhonen really let loose his demented imagination with this one. The design of so many creatures in that episode scared me shitless when I was younger.

On another note, I used to think Robot Chicken was a pretty funny dark comedy sketch show. But since the third season, I've seen enough bad masturbation jokes, domestic violence, and enough raping of childhood 80's/90's properties that not even your typical rule34 can compare to.
DARKEST SKETCH! DARKEST SKETCH!

But yeah, if Zim made you lose your shit, NEVER OH DOG NEVER pick up his comics. Johnny will leave you weeping if you were freaked by Halloween
Oh, I've read some Johnny. Thing is, I read it when I was much older than when I saw the Halloween episode, and at least the comic maintained a certain level of insanity that you kinda got used to it. Zim, on the other hand, had to be a children's show, and I wasn't expecting Halloween as told by Jhonen Vasquez.

There's another unique freak out I had when I was a kid. Scooby Doo on Zombie Island. Yeah, I know, kid's stuff, but at the time, I was used to the old 70's and 80's episodes, but the first direct-to-video movie was advertised as having REAL monsters, not guys in costumes. So when a skeleton arm popped out of a dug out hole and green energy began swirling around it, making a pirate zombie with a bloodied sword materialized, well, I almost never turned the channel on anything, but I did then.

I worshipped that series. The one with the talent show was definetely the best. He went through all that and then he
ended up selling out to the media.
It was tragic, it really was.

I saw "Home", from season 4 of The X-Files last night.
It covers, in order....
-Infanticide
-Incest
-A couple being bludgeoned to death in their own home

The infant, found buried in a shallow grave, is discovered when stepped on by a kid playing baseball with his friends.
Oh, did I mention that the newborn was buried alive?

It was especially shocking seeing as how I'd just watched Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil right before.
Aw you beat me to it. Yeah that's one fucked up episode.

Also Tucker and Dale rocks.

Yeah.
It doesn't really get more disturbing than this.

Though there was this particular scene from Higurashi that made my stomach twist, but for a different reason.

The nail ripping scene.

Fringe. Just...fringe. Within five minutes of it's pilot episode, you've seen a plain full of screaming, horrified people suddenly begin to melt, and it just gets worse from there.

I really wish charlie brooker did horror/thriller stuff more, because he rocks at it. He has a way of finding ways that our modern world and our attitudes towards it can scare us.

This thread has inspired me to rewatch some Moral Orel. It was just became so incredibly devastating towards the end.

We really need a proper release of the second and third seasons over here.

Some parts of Game of Thrones are kind of disturbing.

Then again, I find any kind of torture scenes deeply unnerving.

God, I caught the last two minutes of that Silent Witness episode after watching a Jeeves & Wooster DVD. The contrast. It was TOO GREAT.

Also, you left out that it wasn't just sodomy - it was sodomy with a fat lead pipe. Bloody hell, that made me feel ill.

I'm going with "Hush" from BTVS. Sure there are more graphic, twisted, and terrifying episodes of other shows, but damned if the Gentlemen don't know how to make a lasting impression.

Dude, most of the other monsters and demons in Buffy the Vampire slayer are just so ridiculous that it's hilarious in and of itself. The Gentlemen however, scared the crap out of me. The fact that they made no sound whatsoever and floated around without touching the ground and their permanent fixed grins give me chills just thinking about it.
