Probably going with God of War 3.
Most epic moments go to:
-Fighting Poseidon as a huge water/horse/crab/rock whilst riding a Titan and then beating him to death from HIS point of view
-Having a Tug of war with Hades (Who is essentially, Satan) until you RIP HIS SOUL OUT
-Decapitating a still alive Helios with your BARE-(EFF)ING-HANDS
-Killing Chronos by yourself WHILST KEEPING YOUR NORMAL SIZE!

I'd have to put my vote in for Fallout 3/New Vegas, take your pick.
Both?

But if I had to choose F3 because I have played much more of it the F:NV.

That or Viva Pinata...

I agree on Mass Effect but I feel that one really deserves that award. Not only was the storytelling great but the ending of the game really was well.. epic. It's one of the few games that made me stop and think, weighing the consequences of my actions. I loved it.

Halo series.

I think that "Epic" is gthe only proper way to define it; everything seems like an epic quest, even the music.

If we're talking console exclusives then I believe Crackdown is the most epic of this console generation.

Unreal Tournament III. Seriously, it was made by Epic. How much more epic can you get than that?

Joking aside, one must consider the definition of "epic." Generally, I find it means things like "Grand," "Momentous," and "Serious." "Epic" is a do-or-die fight against truly overwhelming odds - a nemesis that could crush you between his fingers; an army the size of the Soviet Union. It is journeys across vast plains, treks over lofty mountains, and voyages across oceans. It is the feeling of being insignificant and tiny, in a huge world, and still making a difference.
Using that definition, I'd say Mass Effect comes close, Mass Effect 2 is slightly farther away (It doesn't feel as epic as Mass Effect 1!), and honestly, Dragon Age probably takes the crown. Red Dead Redemption is also pretty epic (just based on screenshots), and so is The Elder Scrolls 4.)

But, based solely on the music, I have to say that when Skyrim comes out, it is going to be the most epic thing ever...

Most definitely God of War III.

-Kill a gigantic sea-beast/Posiden monster, causing a Biblical flood to consume the entire planet.
-Killing Hades by ripping his soul right out of his body and releasing all the dead souls from Hades.
-Ripping a conscious Helios's head right off his shoulders and using it as a flashlight.
-Gutting Chronos from the inside and stabbing him in the face with the force of a mountain.
-Murdering Zeus and Gaia, almost simultaneously.
-Ending the FREAKIN' WORLD.

I'll go out on a limb and say Bayonetta.

Was the story epic? No

But, the combat system, ohhhh the combat. It made every move you did seem glorious.

I don't really see what is "epic" about most of the games named.. though quite a few are rather good games, mind.

God of War 3, though I despise the series, fits my idea of epic rather well, as do the related games Darksiders, Dante's Inferno and even Bayonetta.

Epic is about sth being big, huge, downright enormous and then something massive crushing it. Like when in the second LodR movie the riders crush the white hand army. Like a Blind Guardian song.

Half-Life 2 and its episodes had some very epic feel to it at times, as did the halo series (especially what I've seen of reach), "the total war" games..

Bioshock, for example, is a cool game, but besides the glimpses of the size of rapture through the windows I don't feel much epicness going on..

Edit:
Walking on the citadel in ME1 was beyond epic.

You shouldnt ask this question, yet, or maybe even at all. I predict a flame war or 2 as this thread goes on with two or more people arguing about thier choices.

BTW this gen is not over yet.

On topic- Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of the Two Worlds (FTW. Yes, really)

I salute you good sir, for making the same joke I intended.

Though I was debating between using UT3 or Gears of War.

Considering I've played it through three times. Yes, I do think I would like it.

Seriously though Batman was one of the best games this gen too.

Too bad it has so little replayability for me, since I'm PC and have almost no memory, I have to reinstall it every time, only to realize I'm bored, and I deleted what I really wanted to play. :C

I'm just going to say Demon's Souls. Atmosphere is a very important part in a game, and this is one of the only games that actually frightened me. Not only because of the fact that I'd lose all of my souls, but because the entire game was depressingly gorgeous, from the depths of the Valley of Defilement to King Allant's throne room.

I can see where your coming from. It definitely loses something after the initial play through. I guess i just really enjoy punching criminals :p
