Depends on how you see it, but: Buying the most expensive house and filled it with furniture in Oblivion, when i already had a smaller house. But the new house was so purdy! (Skingrad one)

Animal Crossing WW.

I'd just made my first million Bells and the Crown appeared in my shop...
Quickest waste of a million bells ever, that shit took like three months to make. It doesn't even look that good.

I bought a motorbike in World of Warcraft, well actually I had it made by a friend, so it "only" cost 12,500g plus some other resources I had to farm up or buy for a bit more :D

As for wasting real money, WoW again, I got a Starpony. Don't regret that one at all though, as having a ground/air mount on every character ever is quite handy.

i spent 99cents on one of those post stamps that support map makers in TF2, just for the sweet hat... not expensive, but it's the only thing i've bought inside a game.

With real cash:

Horse Armor, and every stronghold in Oblivion. I probably only stepped into half of them once.

Operation Anchorage for Fallout 3 felt like kind of a rip off also. The only cool things about it was the Chinese Stealth Suit, and it completely took all the challenge out of the game if I used it.

With in game currency.
I spent 17,000 gold on an in game pet, that I only use when I want to prove I have it because I like the Phoenix pet more.
I also spent over 10,000 gold in materials to make the motorcycle, only to realize I liked my riding wolf better.

Castle Wolfspike in Oblivion. It's a mod, but the castle costs 100,000 Gold. It looks really cool though so I thought it was worth it.

Then I raised enough Gold on that character to buy every single house and buy all the furniture for every one of them (even DLC ones).

Wait, that's pointless?

AMR is the best fucking rifle in the game, hands down. Worth all the caps IMO. Oh, right, that reminds me.

FNV, Monocyte Breeder. OMG REALLY I GET REGENERATING HEALTH MUST HAVE *Pays 12,000 Caps* Purposely damaged to test out. Restores 1 HP every few seconds. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU I WASTED 12,000 CAPS AND I SAVED WAY TOO FAR BACK
Then again, with jury rigging and/or high luck and/or late in thr game you can easily amass several times that. But yeah the breeder is useless.

But on my first playthrough, I found a laser rifle and had it fully repaired early on in the game...about 1000 caps on something that the varmint rifle can compete with

Any RPG. I will buy some gear from a shop and 5 minutes later find better gear. God I hate when this happens.

Did nobody take the tour of the world's largest bullet in Borderlands?
It was in the Armory DLC. The DLC itself was a great value, the tour... not so much.
You get an achievement trophy for it but that isn't worth anything either. I think they were trying to make a statement about how easy it is to part gamers from their money. At least that message is coming from a company that seems to give us our money's worth.

i never have caps to repair it and you just dont see some random Fiends carrying a amr in the wasteland do you?
Jury Rigging. That is all.

But if you want more details, you need 90 Repair skill and to be level 14, but it's worth it for sure, because IMO it's the best perk in the game. "Repair weapons with any other roughly similar weapon". You can repair the AMR with a Varmint Rifle and even a BB Gun. Also good for farming super Mutants for high value weapons, repairing them with cheap weapons, and selling them for high amounts of caps.

Hell, you can even repair a 10mm Pistol with a Sawed-Off Shotgun or the other way around.

@Platypusbill101: Yeah, I actually am loaded with caps now as I was when I bought it, but really, I just spent 12,000 caps for an essentially useless implant. What a waste.
