Linkin Park (the first few records anyway - I dig the whole Deftones-meets-Moby thing they had going on)
Good Charlotte (At least their first two albums - see above for the reason)
Green Day
I enjoy two of Green Day's later albums ('Warning' and 'American Idiot').

Linkin Park's old stuff is good, if you don't pay too much attention to the lyrics.

I used to be a HUGE fan of Good Charlotte, and would listen to them for hours on end. Then, I realized that I'm a fan of a different genre, and sort of forgot about them. After not listening to a GC song for a while, I went back and tried to hear 'The Young And Hopeless' and 'The Chronicles of Life and Death'. I hate Good Charlotte with a passion now.

I'm not usually a fan of solo artists and I think his image seems corporate and fake, but some of his songs are so happy xD

And Lady Gaga <_<
Read a few of Andrew WK's interviews. The guy is completely genuine in his positivity and enthusiasm, and I respected him a lot more after finding out what he was really like. I think he's even a self-help guru now, although I haven't investigated that part of his career yet.

Also: Lady Gaga makes some catchy tunes. I have no problem with her.

Also, I really like Slipknot and I almost never tell anyone, because I'm afraid of the reaction I'll get (although I do understand, they can be pretty ridiculous).

Lastly, the Frogs tend to get VERY strong love/hate reactions from people; luckily, I've gotten mostly positive reactions.
Andrew WK is completely awesome. Follow him on Twitter, the dude's hilarious.

I'm a big fan of Dream Theater, and while they don't always get a ton of hate, the people who do dislike them tend to be pretty vocal about it. The haters seem to think DT is just a bunch of instrumental wankery, which does happen on occasion, with no real talent.
Thanks. I'll check out his Twitter. Love his interviews already.

I've seen Dream Theater twice. Once in 2003 with my cousin (who is a much bigger fan) and in 2006 on Gigantour. They were great in 2003 (when they played songs from their entire career), but they bored me on Gigantour (probably because Dillinger Escape Plan and Fear Factory had just blown my head off). I really like Images & Words and Awake, but I haven't really given their other albums a chance. In that genre, I tend to gravitate more towards Opeth and Mastodon, although Opeth could use an editor sometimes.

I love Slipknot, and Silent Hill 2 is my favourite game. YE-AH!

Also, Korn and Marilyn Manson.
Yahtzee steered me towards Silent Hill 2 :) I also really liked the first one (which I actually think is scarier, although not as deep or as well-written). I haven't finished 3 or Shattered Memories yet, but more from lack of time than anything else.

I got Korn's first album in October 1995 before anyone I knew had heard of them. To a 13 year-old, that was some heavy, intense, depressing shit. I still liked some of their other songs and albums, but I don't think they ever topped that first album. I tried to listen to their latest album in the car a few weeks ago, and I turned it off after 5 songs. That type of angst doesn't work anymore for me, especially coming from a rich 40-something.

As far as Manson goes, I still think Antichrist and Mechanical Animals hold up really well. I may have to hear some of the other albums eventually. I also think he gives a pretty entertaining interview.

I kind of like Linkin Park's early stuff. No, scratch that. I like it. No kinda about it. Despite all the shit my composer friend gives me for it, I still like Hybrid Theory and Meteora. I listen to them when I am reallyreallyangry. I stomp about for a bit, get it out of my system, and move along with my day. Works like a charm.

Also, Tori Amos is my favourite musician ever. A lot of people absolutely despise her but I think she is a genius. I'll come out and say it: I am a total Toriphile. Her last few albums have been kind of spotty, I will agree, but her musical skill is still there. She's trying new stuff and I think that's great. So yes. My love for Tori Amos has been a point of contention amongst me and my acquaintances many tmes.

Green Day
Smashing Pumpkins
Fall Out Boy (What people never seem to realize is that both Pete Wentz and Andy Hurley both came out of a Chicago hardcore/powerviolence band called Racetraitor that was extremely brutal and that Joe Trohman joined when he overheard Wentz and Hurley talking about fucking Neurosis - every single member of that band is a metalhead.)
It's funny you mention Neurosis (who are amazing) and Green Day in the same post. I swear to God that Green Day thanked Neurosis in the linear notes of one of their early albums, although it could conceivably be the other way around. Billie Joe Armstrong is a metalhead of sorts, and he mentioned that he wanted to be Randy Rhodes when he was younger but never had the patience to practice enough.

Do people actually hate the Pumpkins, or do they just find Billy Corgan intolerable?

Green Day & a few of Lady Gaga's songs.

I totally understand the hate for both of them though, lol.

I'd list some bands, but I'd rather just say Rap/Hip-Hop in general.
Especially over the internet, where TONS of people blast it for being nothing but bitches, hoes, and money, when that isn't even true. Tons of rap has incredibly deep meaning, rhythm, and thought to it, so saying anything else is just being an ignorant dick.
Now, I understand if you don't like it, but if you hate rap, hate it for reasons that actually hold weight.

You damn well better. [http://www.cracked.com/blog/what-andrew-wks-twitter-taught-me-about-life/]

Ot: Probably Iwrestledabearonce. I can totally see why anyone would hate them. I just love how fucking ridiculous they are.

The part at 0:17 is like the funniest thing i've heard in ages.

A lot of groups I like are hated by someone. Most of my friends hate all the black metal I listen to. The one that is hated the most is probably Hollywood Undead. Hell, I hate that I like them, but their songs are just so damn catchy and fun.

The one band that it confuses me the most that people hate is Disturbed. I honestly love them i think they're great. Also i like a ton of Drum 'n' Bass and Techno and other such music.

Well I listen to a lot of music so I have many bands that I personally like that have a vast majority of hate too.

Just to name a few: Creed, All-American Rejects, Black Veil Brides, Hollywood Undead, Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, My Chemical Romance, Smashing Pumpkins, Sum 41, The White Stripes, A Skylit Drive, The Devil Wears Prada, and Abandon All Ships.

As I said, I listen to pretty much everything so people give me crap for my itunes library a lot. Especially since a lot of the bands I listed are like emo/screamo/pop-ish/whatever bands and I listen to mostly metal.

If you liked Awake I'd recommend Train of Thought and Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence for their heavier edge. Scenes From a Memory is pretty amazing too.

Chumbawamba. Not for tubthumping. That's an aberration. They're actually a pretty good peace punk band.

Metropolis Part II: Scenes from a Memory is probably my all time favorite album. The music is phenominal, the concept is fascinating, and it just blows me away every single time. I love Dream Theater, but an old friend once told me that most people who like Dream Theater are a bunch of douchebags who hate everything that isn't Prog Metal. So yeah, they catch a lot of flack.

On a different note, I don't get why so many peope think other people hate Disturbed. Sure I've heard of people who don't listen to them, but I have never run across someone who flat out hates them. The worst album they've made is Asylum and even then it's still decent, just not amazing.
