Wolfenstein 3D basically innovated FPS's. Doom took the genre to a whole new level, and basically invented LAN gaming.
Havent played either but I think a agree with you.Fanboy said:I would say Metroid Prime was pretty innovative, though I have yet to play it so don't take my word for it.

To me it was hard but not revolutionary in any way.
2) AI- not since Half-Life's marines had there been such a ridiculously overpowered gorilla called an elite who can speak perfect english with four lips.
3)The regenerative health system in which it was so perfect practically every shooter now has this mechanic in some way. "Hey, I shot you!!" "Regenerating health, *****!"
Actually I change my answer to this list here. Well said, I agree with it 100%Joeshie said:In this exact order:
1) Wolfenstein 3D
2) Doom
3) Half-Life
No other FPSs are as innovative or influential as the above. This is a fact. If you disagree you are wrong.

adjective
1. ahead of the times; had advanced views on the subject
2. being or producing something like nothing done or experienced or created before

Red Faction did it earlier and better.Indigo_Dingo said:Personally, I'd say Black. Fitting the idea of total destructibility into the levels...
That's because for the past ten years the FPS has saturated the market. You are not considered a game / level designer if you don't have a crap load of FPS garbage to your credit.thatstheguy said:Today, an "Innovative Shooter" would seem like an oxymoron.
