Keyes: Cortana, all I need to know is, did we lose them?

Cortana: I think we both know the answer to that.

"Surrender or die in obscurity!" -Ramza

Not the very first lines of the game, but definitely the ones that come to mind regarding the rest of the game. They never wise up and surrender...

Fallout, Morrowind and Half-Life 2 have been mentioned more than enough times already, so I'll add in this one:

"I want to show you something." - Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
For me the game starts when you meet Jack, the guy is simply awesome :D
"What a scene, man! Hoo-wee! Then they just plop ya out here like a naked baby in the woods!"
Haha, yeah, he's the reason I always do the tutorial. :D

... once you know about LaCroix's maneuvering, the way he says: "Don't come back... until you do," right before he sends you out, gains a whole new meaning.

Not an opening line but an opening sequence. That being of Red Dead Redemption. It was so good, and I'm a sci-fi nut!

One of the best mood setting ones was:

Welcome to the Madhouse, Batman!

On second thought.... nah, still the best :)

Most people think time is like a river, that flows swift and sure in one direction. But I have seen the face of time and I can tell you...they are wrong.

Time is an ocean in a storm

"We've had to endure much, you and I, but soon there will be order again, a new age. Aquinas spoke of the mythical City on the Hill. Soon that city will be a reality, and we will be crowned its kings. Or better than kings. Gods."

"I was born 87 years ago. For 65 years I ruled as Tamriel's emperor. After all these years, I've never been emperor of my own dreams. I've seen the gates of Oblivion."

Sit down, and I will tell you a tale like none that you have ever heard."

Dude, I love that quote. Just the prince running through the jungle in the rain, the music. Stunning.

This is a personal thing more then anything, but how could this franchise be ignored. While this quote technically comes after the first mission, it's power resonates strongly and sets the tone of the game fantastically well:

"On the 15th day of the third month of the year 1935, the Empire began its assault in earnest. A formal declaration of war was made upon Gallia. Though it was only a small front in a massive continental assault, what followed would prove that a tiny nation could best a military giant. These events would tell a story of tragedy hidden in the mists of time. A story of courage and of trust, of persecution and hate. And of love blooming, even through the flames of war. What follows is a record of this conflict, and of those who fought, lived and died."

'in the grim dark millenium of the 41st millenium, there is only war.' ( spoken in the heaviest manly voice you can imagine )
You could use the opening of Fire Warrior if you want that quote.

PRESS START : blinking in the center of the screen, possibly with an announcer after a few seconds.

- It is a good life we lead, brother.
- The best. May it never change.
- And may it never change us.
*Title screen comes up while music by Jesper Kyd plays*

From the beginning of Assassin's Creed II.

"And may it never change us." Ezio's brother. Cue sweeping orchestral score.

First time I can say I felt like I was playing a movie

It's probably already been mentioned, but I'm going to have to go with Fallout's

"War. War never changes."
