The Witcher series. I love CDProjekt forever for making Good Old Games, but the Witcher baffles me. PC gamers like nice, clean mechanics and interface too. And a protagonist who I don't want to dropkick off the Empire State building would be nice.

FFVII. I did try playing it, and I got about a third into it before I decided it was entertaining, but thoroughly "meh."

Mass Effect 2. The original was miles better in every aspect I can think of, and yes, that includes combat.

Portal. Or any Valve game in general. And Valve themselves. Valve fanboys are horrible.

The God of War and Gears of War series. They were good, but not as amazing as everyone seemed to say.

This question is done-to-death, but my answer is Uncharted 1. Absolutely boring, generic enemies, wave-after-wave gameplay, predictable and dull plot. A few of the setpieces were cool, and the voice acting was alright, but that's not worth all the "GAME OF THE YEAR!!11!!" awards it got.

I liked the first Witcher but the game definitely has some problems. I think the first Witcher mostly got the hype it did because there are so few good big name PC exclusives nowadays. Still glad I played it, but the game would have not been nearly as popular I think if it was released in like 1999/2000 with games like Planescape: torment, fallout 2, Baldur's Gate 2, etc. Haven't played the second Witcher yet, since my PC sucks, waiting for the xbox 360 version. But I think it coming out for a console may kill some of the appeal the Witcher games have. Not sure if exactly Witcher is that overrated though, I mean compared to the RPGS that came out recently though but if you compare them to the older RPGs then I think that may be a different story.

Bioshock - I tried to love it. I made a point to try and play it all without putting to much of a break in it. I restarted it 5 times to try and get the full experience. The first 4 it ended up back on my shelf and left to die. The fifth time I got to the theater area, then lost all desire to play it. It is clunky and boring. It has wonderful atmosphere, but as a game it falls short.

Oblivion - I played for about 6 hours...and then realized I was not having any fun at all.

Call of Duty. It started getting really tedious after MW2, and I switched over to Battlefield. To be fair, I played through CoD1, CoD Big Red One, and MW2, though. I have played the others, but I haven't bought them, because I'm not buying another CoD game unless they make some major improvements. Another thing is how everyone says the graphics are really good, but all of them look as if they're just reskinned from World at War. Battlefield, on the other hand, has made lots of improvements, and actually requires teamwork. Oh, and it has destruction, vehicles, and is more balanced.

I'm going to have to be terribly unoriginal and say Call of Duty.
I'm just not that keen on staring at strawberry jelly smeared on glass and listening to foreign people yell for hours straight.

Well, before I declare the (imo) most overrated game I can think of, I'll take a stroll through the current contenders.

Halo: The first game started great. (Almost) everyone loved it. Then as more came out (starting with 2) it sucked, relying more on multiplayer as the popularity rose.
CoD: Same as Halo, except starting with 3
GoW: Not a bad game, but it's overrated. Mostly because of the gore I'm guessing (possibly story, but who knows).
GTA: Honestly, it's a sandbox game that forgot to give you a shovel until you're almost done with your castle. It's too 'realistic'. (annoying relatives, you die fairly easily, etc). But it has it's moments. Mainly when you have a helicopter tipped sideways in the streets with the fan turning; sending both cars and unlucky pedestrians all the way to Neverland.
Borderlands: Fun on the first playthrough (I will admit repetitive and a bit long), but after you've done it once, you've done it all.
Portal: It's mostly rated this good because it wasn't a game in itself. As Yahtzee said, more of a fill in for the Orange Box.

That's enough for now. Personally, I feel the most overrated game is... Mario. Judge me as you may. I find it a great game, but not excellent. And the remakes/others (Mario Galaxy, Wario World) are just terrible. Well, other than Luigi's Mansion, but you get the gist of it.

EDIT: And the most underrated game (imo) goes to... Halo. Nah, just kidding. It's the Total War series.

Most recently, the Gears of War series. They're not bad games, I just find it very generic for all of the praise that it gets.

And I'll probably be called a troll for this, but honestly, Super Mario Bros 3. It is a great, legendary game, but I can't believe how many times I've heard it be called the greatest game of all time from a significant amount of people. It's like the Holy Grail of gaming, and that actually makes it too overrated for its own good, that it can't possibly live up to that hype nowadays.

Dragon Age: Origins. Generic story, ugly art style, illusion of choice, too many intrusive cutscenes, extremely slow and padded, piss poor character customization.

Mass Effect 2. Rather anemic gun play, extremely linear, once again only an illusion of choice, combat consisting of gluing yourself to Wally McChest-high and taking potshots at enemies, no character customization what-so-ever, dull planet scanning for resources for weapon upgrades. I don't understand why people think ME2 was a good game or even a good RPG.

Halo.
I really have to say Halo.
I liked halo. I really did.

But thats the problem. I "did" like halo. Halo 1 was amazing. Halo 2 was Halo 1 with dual wielding. Halo 3 was Halo 2 with crappy duel wielding, and equipment. And now Halo Reach is Halo 3 with re-textured weapons, no duel wielding, and the ability to turn invisible, and fly around with jetpacks at will.

Im glad it didnt change. But i hate that it never evolved. Its done the opposite. Its devolved into everyone having jet packs and infinite grenades. ((Grenades were my death 90% of the time. Seriously! Theres piles of grenades everywhere, and when someone dies, they drop more grenades!))

Halo was Properly rated. Now its become a Halo clone of itself. Except with more grenades.
