Hey guys,

What, in your opinion, is the most over rated video game of the last few years?

Now, this doesn't necessarily mean the worst game. But that game that you think had so much hype, so many people praising it at the second coming only to find that it was at best mediocre.

For me personally there are two games that fit this title.

Forza 4 and Skyrim.

Neither game really did anything particularly different, they didn't do anything all that well and had it not been for the title/publisher they post probably wouldn't have registered a blip on the radar.

I think its common to over hype games these days, but what games have you found to be drastically overrated?

Half life 2. IMO, generic as hell, with stupidly long vehicle sections and a badly done story. I don't like the idea of just sitting there listing to him, there are much better ways of doing it.

Any of the gears of wars. Nothing special about them at all imo

Skyrim. Enjoyed it for about a good 20 hours over a week and never played it again. Never felt like my actions however major, had any real and lasting consequences. Felt more like a single player mmo in that regard.

Oh, the internet does not approve of that. IMO Every call of duty past 4 would fit. They are all remakes with re skinned textures.

Dark Souls.

I think amazingly high of Dark Souls, so it's pretty much impossible for it to live up to the praise that I will give it.

I'm generally not too concerned with how overrated something is.

Gear of War, Skyrim and Call of Duty/Battlefield/Modern Warfare and here's why (for me):

GoW: Why should I care about a chunky, no necked guy wearing half a car? There is no discernable story (that I could find), the "action" part of the gameplay was boring and repeptitive.

Skyrim: Do the choices we make in game matter? What are you meant to be doing in the first place? could someone tell me, I couldn't figure it out, i got so bored with the game on day 1 I returned it.

CoD/BF/MW: They are all the same war based shooters that we have been seeing since the year dot, each new game brings nothing new to the table (that couldn't be released in DLC). They are realistically unrealistic.

Thanks for pre-empting me! That said, my real pick is BioShock. Atmosphere spoiled by noise, generic gameplay, and a story that relied to heavily on the villain, and a poorly executed attempt at satire. Also, meh soundtrack. And a really shitty sequel that proved the good things about the original were mostly a fluke.

Skyrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrim

It plays like a casual game, run around do some quests, kill some beasts, all with little consequence or involvement.

IMO, there's no such thing as an overrated game. Or an overrated anything for that matter...

Nothing is overrated.

Saint's Row 3, minor step above 2, controls are still bad and graphics were pretty weak.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

People talked up the universe/lore and art work of this game so much before it came out. Seeing as it was created by R.A. Salvatore and Todd McFarlane respectively. I found those two aspects of the game to be the most underwhelming, the land was generic fantasy land, story was, I would say bad, but I don't think bad is a strong enough word.. and the art looked like it had been almost ripped straight from World of Warcraft. The gameplay, which seemed to be the least lauded pre-launch, I actually found to be by far the best aspect of the game.

Bioshock 2 was developed by 2K marin not Irrational games so Bioshock infinite will be the sequel that will decide whether it was a fluke.

I would say Mass effect since it's a game i never got into and cared for, but it's not overrated. People love that series, and if they like it who am i to say it's overrated? it's simply not a game for me, it doesn't make it overhyped.

I am done with shit like this If I don't like something and it comes up I will say I don't like it but this kind of thing is becoming ubiquitous. What do you not like? Why are you special? What do you not like that makes you so much better then anyone else? So forget about it I am not going to comment on this kind of thing anymore. If you want to grate but I'm not going to anymore.
