Public Holidays, we all love them, most of them even grant us time off work/school.
Still I was curious as to which were there for no reason (or a stupid one.)
Descriptions of obscure and country specific ones would be helpfull (as in if it's not about a fat guy in red giving presents away then gi into more detail!!)

So, enlighten me...

This has been edited because I felt like it.

Can I have a small ship instead?
Maybe a frigate (not sure if the empire has these?) or a TIE intercepter..

Talk like a Pirate Day.
Foolish Mortals, EVERY DAY you should be enlisting pirate jargon.

In New Zealand we have this thing called waitangi day. It's supposed to be marking the day that the british signed a treaty with the Maori (New Zealand natives), guaranteed them rights to their land (or so it seemed) and gave Maori the rights of British citizens. Alot of Maori are still pretty pissed that they essentially gave their land away to the queen without a proper fight. So every year when the prime minister goes to Waitangi (where the treaty was signed) she gets greeted by about two hundred angry protesters. Now it has been renamed "New Zealand day" and I think the prime minister sort of gave up on the idea of seeming culuraly sensitive and just ignored the date completely.

The stupid thing is that quite a long while ago now it used to be called "new zealand day" anyway, and alot of Maori were complaining that it wasn't called "Waitangi day" and that the signing of the treaty wasn't being recognised as a national holiday.

In short people will find a way to complain about anything. Like me, complaining about a day in which I don't have to do anything. Stupid me.
