BB King from World of Warcraft. You need to get to the leader of each race in the opposing faction and hit them with a BB gun. The BB gun does no damage and does not auto-hit, you need to get it from a Christmas present with a very low chance of dropping it, and you can only get it during 2 weeks of the year.

Alternatively, "The Insane" from the same game. You need to raise reputation with several factions, 4 of whom you will lose rep with by gaining it with one of the others and have few ways of getting rep from. Before Cataclysm came, you could expect to spend 360 hours on getting it. Access to a rogue was also non-optional. Not sure what it's like now, but it should still take a long time.

You know you can get Half Life achievements with cheats on right? At least on 360.

I still can't get Mile High Club or Sum of All Zeroes (Cod 4 and COD WAW)
I spent a straight week on Mile High Club. And I still don't have it.
Mile High Club is all about strategy. It's wierd, with stuff like that it's always been like, formulate a strategy and stick to it, and keep going til you get the execution right. Eventually I gave up after trying for freakin hours, bu then took a break and the next day I tried it again, got it first pop.
That's the key with incredibly difficult achievements like Mile High Club. If you get pissed, odds are you're going to keep failing. Take a step back and relax for awhile and come back to it. I got it for myself and my friend, but I tried to get it for my ex but I got so angry she turned the xbox off on me :p

Also, I heard of one in mirror's edge where you go through the game not shooting anyone or something... Good luck on those crazy missions where they corner you in a small room and almost FORCE you to use guns.
EASIEST game long achievement I have ever gotten. There is one mission that requires you to use a gun but that isn't counted. Also its EASIER to take out the guards without using a gun.

I feel kind of ashamed, I've gotten most of the achievements mentioned so far...

Anyway, I'd say the Assassin's Creed flag achievements. You want me to spend an entire day of my life collecting 400 flags?

[sup]The sad part is I attempted it too...got about half done, then said "fuck it".[/sup]
I actually sat there and got that achievement. Simultaneously a very proud/very unproud moment

OT: I would say the seven day survivor achievement from Dead Rising. Survive for 14 real-time hours without saving and with your health slowly depleting. I am yet to attempt this one

Mate sorry If I'm stepping on your toes here but those 2 barely count as hard achievements. BB King is about luck just getting that thing. After that u'll just die a few times getting to the leaders. Other than orgrimmar/ironforge you probably won't even have any players do deal with.

As for "Insane in the membrane" it's just a grindfest. I've done the Cartel/Buccaneers/some of Ravenhold but let it go cuz Cata was comming(btw Darkmoon Faire beats ALL of them combined). And getting "Battlemaster" now is like 1000times harder than getting "The Insane".

Think of getting "The Immortal" when Wotlk 1st came out. I think that was especially hard since if only 1 person out of 25 fucked up and died at any time u'd have to try next week. But what really requires skill are pvp achievs like win 10times in a row at 2300arena rating or something. I can't remember remember details and names cuz I've quit wow some time ago but i know there are achievs that were simply impossible in pvp without setting the whole thing up with the other team.

not a single achieve but a whole games worth, FFXI. The vast majority of them are "Achieved level 75 in *insert job*"

The 2 from reach (solo legendary and the assassination one) were a tad enfuriating at times, solo'ing that stupid flying chapter especially.

Quite a few of the earlier guitar hero ones too

I don't recall what the title is, but there's a trophy in Resistance 2 for getting 10,000 kills in multiplayer.
Bad Company 2 also has a ridiculous one, where you have to knife 5 different people on your friends list. Getting that without specifically setting it up is nigh on impossible.
Knifing 5 people on your friends list was incredibly easy for me. Unless you dont have 5 friends.

I was able to do that pretty easily. I dont know why everyone seems to have trouble with it.

Sorry for the double post.

Rock band 2 do all the songs in one go without pause.

"Bladder of Steel"
Couldn't you have 4 or 5 people take turns?
Also, I think that the "Best Little Slaughterhouse in Texas" achievement in TF2 qualifies. You have to get 5,000 kills with your sentry guns, which is just a sign of how much time you've spent playing the game and not any real skill. It's also one that almost no people have.

I'm going with Kill all 60 Templars from Assassin's Creed, those guys were some of the most glitched npcs I'd ever seen i was stuck on 59 for a long time. Not to mention that if they see you jumping from roof to roof they may run after you but never climb the buildings, so they're standing 100 yards away from their post looking around aimlessly. I actually killed the last one thinking he was a guard captain.

Guns we need guns can actually be done solo if you're willing to kill some serious time. It takes several times through the game to get all the weapons and you need a second account to act as a mule. after finishing the game bring in your mule and gift him every weapon you have. Load up your new game and transfer your weapons back from the mule once you have access to the weapons room. Each game has a set of weapons that are available from shops and chests, somewhere between 12 and 15 unique weapons a game. That isn't to say you won't have overlap, but it does guarantee that you won't lose your weapons to an unscrupulous player.

I know Little Rocket Man has been mentioned, but what about Guardin' Gnome (Left 4 Dead 2)?

Pissed me off to carry the gnome that far.
That one pissed me off too since we left it up on the ledge when you drop down into the sewer at the very end...then realized we had to do it all over again. Just the worst...

I got Bladder of Steel by trading off every few songs with my sister. Would have gone for the Expert achievement, but she wouldn't have been able to handle that. Hell, I probably would have lost on Battery on Expert anyways.

"Little Rocket Man" can go die in a hole. I spent forever carrying that damn gnome through the game, put it in the rocket, launched it, but didn't get the achievement. SO ANGRY.

I doubt this is the hardest, but it's certainly the one I remember as most frustrating. The "If they came to see me beg" achievement from reach.
I spent ever so much time figuring out how to do that, until, of course, realization came to mind, and I discovered why Bungie implemented Banshees from the first game.

Fighter airships? More like achievementmobile

2. When you have to go and get the car off the bridge you can leave the gnome with Alyx and the vortigaunt. WARNING: Make sure you leave the gnome right next to the gate which you open after you get the car, the one which Alyx and the vortigaunt come through. It only opens very briefly when you pull the lever for it, and if you're not careful you may lose it. Especially as the door opens for slightly longer when they come through, and after that you really can't get to it fast enough to pull the gnome through.
Pointlessly hard. Just shoot the gnome onto the bridge and then you can go pick it up when you have the car.

Also all of the gnome achivements were piss easy. Even the car sections weren't that bad if you know where to put the gnome in the car you can drive for a while with it sitting inside. And the gnome makes a good melee weapon in l4d2
Well get you. I don't know why you'd try to boast about how it was by quoting someone who already has those achievements, but hey...

Anyway, I don't see why leaving the gnome at the start and picking it up at the end is significantly harder than punting it onto the bridge.
1) I'm not boasting, I'm agreeing.
2) by punting it over you are not limited to a time frame and can pick it up at your leisure.

I hate about any achievment that requires you to find millions of hidden things everywhere. What I think they should do is like in bully if you complete higher level courses and things you get hints on your map on where they are hidden but it's pretty difficult to unlock th map guides.
