Today I was sat in physics and instead of listening to the teacher ramble on about simple harmonic motion I found myself trying to think who the most powerful superheroes (and villians) are. For DC I reackon it could be Sodam Yat, the Green Lantern Daxamite who was up until recently bonded with Ion. For Marvel I guess it could either be The Sentry or The Hulk. Anyway my question is who do you think it is and why?

Noone else could beat him, unless there is an unheard of cryptonite man, which really wouldn't surprise me coming from his universe.
No point to continue on, he may be completely bland but superman does beat everyone else.

Yep, boring bland Supes is the most powerful. End of discussion.

NOT SUPERMAN.
If all it takes to kill you is a little green rock, then you fail. Also, despite popular thinking, he's not invincible, you can beat him to death if you try hard enough.

So I would have to say....Goku from DBZ. He counts right?

Yeah, Superman is the most ridiculously overpowered hero in existence. I think the only one from Marvel that could give him a true run for his money is The Sentry (and his whiny bitchiness would probably not help him win).

Of course if we looked at it super nerdishly, any super hero with the ability to acquire some kryptonite and then smart enough to actually kill Supes with it would win. The problem is, everyone with kryptonite suffers from "Dr. Evil" syndrome, which means placing Supes in an easily escapable situation involving an unnecessarily elaborate death and then walking away.

Most powerful superhero?
Well I always think of Dr. Manhattan [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr._Manhattan#Doctor_Manhattan] when I hear those words.

When every plan for writing him out of some impossible trap that will certainly kill him is "he gets more powerful", it's hard to disagree with you. How can a messiah allegory ever be beaten?

I forgot about him! I guess when you look at Goku's most powerful moments he's at least equally as overpowered. Hmmmmm....

Isn't Gohan more powerful still, or have I just not been keeping up with it? I've really only ever scene DBZ until Buu showed up and then I lost interest.

That sounds like it could be an entirely separate topic but I don't feel like doing it now.

Actually, Aqua Man. Well, provided he could control people, due to them being evolved from fishies and made mostly of water.

Otherwise, Superman, no contest.

Winner. If you can survive being reduced to less than subatomic particles, you win.

Surprised it took so long for someone to say that. I mean, he makes Superman look kindof tame now that I think about it.

I'd love to see a Watchmen spinoff series centred entirely around Dr. Manhattan.

"Dr Manhattan, terrorists are threatening to blow up the white house!"
"I know. 5 minutes in the future, they are all in prison cells and the threat is completely neutralised"
"... Ok, thats pretty good I guess"

I mean, not even Alan Moore could write that and make it good.

Not true, Batman can beat him. He keeps a contingency plan to defeat any hero in JLU in case they defect. Not to mention that Superman has died and Batman has yet to be killed.

Good call.

Now that the Doc is taken I'd like to throw Parallax (preferably the Hal Jordan version) in the ring. He's not indestructible, but he's really good at mind-control and even managed to control Superman. Plus he had both the green and the yellow Lantern powers, cancelling out the yellow weakness.

You know what I'm going with Dr. Manhattan too. Superman can be brought low by kryptonite. Dr. Manhattan is the closest you can be to being a god without actually being one (hell, maybe he IS). Is there anyway to stop this guy if he wants you dead?

Wait a second, didn't they already kill him a few times in the past? Of course it's never permanent, but what death is permanent in the DC multiverse...

Galactus!

Well, he's a hero to me...

Dr Manhattan though, really.

I wouldn't count out a badass normal like The Question as being 'the most powerful' either. They tend to have a way of beating the odds, no matter how implausible.
