The Nameless One from Planescape: Torment.

He can't die, he just automatically steals the closest soul (most likely yours) when he is killed and reincarnates, this also works on immortals.

Game over.

It's a bit fun really, since a part of the game is to find out how you can end this "torment" and finally die. So, it's apparently more of a curse than a blessing.

I'd recommend the game though, if you like the old D&D RPG system, it's got a great story.

Mine would be Gordon Freeman. Able to compute difficult problems in his head AND swing a crowbar for a lethal blow.

I pick him!
I genuinely do not understand peoples obsession with Gordon Freeman as being powerful. Hes really not, hes just a dude in a hazmat suit with some guns? Hes not different or more powerful then any other character that is just a man.
Now if you want to talk powerful you need to move into mythological or magic. E.g. Kratos or every level 80 WoW character, the shit the tank has to put up with is insane.
he's the most realistically possible powerful character. Sure I could say the guy that shoots laser beams from his eyes or chews on glass instead of tobacco. But not Freeman. Freeman uses his mind to combat puzzles while others go and blow them up. That's not real power that's just the ability do blow something up. I think real power is to combat your foes efficiently as possible. Which Gordon does.
he doesn't use his mind to solve puzzles...the friggin cement block on seesaw thing is like the only puzzle. other than that it's hit switches and blow things up like any other fps. enough with the Freeman bonerjams already. if you are going through a Freeman mancrush, just try to imagine him without glasses and see if you still like him so much.

Ryu Hayabusa... He can take on an army of Warewolfs at the same time and whip a scythe with a blade as big as him around just as fast most people can swing swords, if not faster.

Has Dr. Manhattan been in a game yet? When he is (he will be, the movie pretty much guarenteed that) it is him. Your character may exist, but he can prevent him/her from ever existing. You know, if he feels like it.

One Really powerful guy was sephiroth ( I know he's from final fantasy) when you fight him in kingdom hearts one and two.

I think Halo is a pretty cool guy,
I'm sorry, I have to respond to that, with a:

*Facepalm.*

Halo is the title of the game, and also the name of the ringworlds constructed by the forerunners. "Halo", as you refer to him, is actually named John, A.K.A. Spartan 117, A.K.A. Master Chief.

Sorry, just, thought you'd know his real name. It's a fairly common mistake.

OT:

I'm going with "OneBig Man" said. Anyone in an exoskeleton suit who flies a bomb through space and single-handedly destroys a freakin' huge starship is pretty B.A. if you ask me.

Mercer, by far. And yet, despite all that raw power, he doesn't have the power to make his game any fun.

He was also powerful in final fantasy VII (where he was the final boss in 3 stages) but I suppose it is now heresy to speak of such things like final fantasy in a positive light. I expect I will be crucified this evening.

*sadface* but... he's just human. Not a some god man. So picked the character I thought was most powerful. You may not agree with it. And I respect that.

Darth Revan. Even completely loosing his memory and having the Jedi make him a new one isnt enough to keep him down.
