This is why I gave up on the game. It was SO EMO!!! Hate me if you will, I never liked turn based RPG's & this was my attempt to give them a shot. I just couldn't get over the whining shite of this game.
Honestly? Based on that response I do hate you - it's such an ignorant response I'm almost shocked you didn't think before you posted it, really it's that kind of post that creates RPG elitists - what you just said is effectively "I don't like it because it was sad"...
It really does explain a lot as to why games never get the same artistic praise as music or film - the reason seems to be people like you. First of all, it seems clear you were out to dislike the game from the off due to the combat system - but ignoring that how on earth can you claim a game like this is "whining shite" - the whole point of the story was to get across the anguish of being immortal and the fact that death is not a bad thing. Yes it's meant to be depressing because, contrary to what most games would have you believe life is depressing. Now I'm not comparing Lost Odyssey to reality, but it certainly has a far greater degree of human emotion and complexity than say Tales of Vesperia, which is by no means a bad game.
And really now "emo" - you're really going to use a buzzword that should have died long ago to describe a game like this? You obviously didn't try to engage with the characters, the plot or the experience as a whole - especially as you didn't get past the first disk. You need to grow up if that's your attitude towards games that go beyond the norm. when it comes to emotion.
EDIT: On reflection I was probably a bit harsh with my wording...
