eight pages and no-one's mentioned anything from ffiv? seriously, I know hardly anyone actually ended up dying, but I was shattered when innocent Palom and Porom turned themselves to stone to save our party.

in final fantasy tatics at the end it explains what happened to all the main characters after the events of the game and there is one key character (whos name ive forgotten) gets burnt joan of arc style on a steak for dissagreeing with the religion and being branded a heretic, also in the same game delita, when he is crowned king, stabs his wife (they were just recently married and she was a key character) to death just because she knew what he did o the protagonist (ramza)

When Kaiden died, it tore me up
If it hurt you so much then why'dja choose him to die? Huh?[small] Heartless fiend...[/small]

OT:

Phoenix Wright:

When Mia died it was a bit of a shock. That sid, the whole 'psychic' aspect of the game meant that she didn't really die... only came back in the form of an 8 year old girl... boobs and all. Very creepy.

Which character's death had a great story impact or freaked you out? At the top of my head, I have two death. Modern Warfare when Gaz got shot and MW2 when Roach and Ghost died.
Spoiler from Modern Warfare 2

I have to agree with Roach and Ghost getting shot then burned. When sheperd shot Roach than Ghost the first thing that went through my mind was OH SH*T! This came as a suprise to me because I never played the whole COD 4 campain (disc won't let me play past the 4th mission)

Axle in KH2, he was awesome ... then he died saving your sorry ass ... or at least that is how I remember it.

Zack in FFVII: Crisis Core, I have never played the original so I had no idea it was coming, so when it did I was like 'MOTHERF***ERS I HOPE YOU ALL DIE, WHY WOULD YOU KILL THE MOST AWE3SOME FF CHRACTER I HAVE EVER SEEN!! GO *insert 10 minutes of straight cursing and inflammatory insults here*.'

Ser Jory from Dragon Age: Origins. It was fairly obvious he was going to die or run away or something, but for Duncan to stab him as he drew his sword was fairly surprising. I kinda liked Jory too - had a kid, a wife, something to live for. Ah well, we're all better off without a dude who has green skin.

Although the deaths of Aeris, Roach and Ghost, Andrew Ryan etc all made my mouth drop open, there was one death which really made me angry.

The Darkness:

Jenny gets killed in front of Jackie at the end of Chapter 1, in cold blood. I really hated Paulie for being the sad and pathetic fucker he is. It really motivated me to finish the game in one playthrough, just so I could shoot Paulie in his disgusting face for what he did. If a game can develop that kind of hatred against the antagonist, then the developers did an amazing job.

Amazing game. Short, though.

RPG deaths always hit me hard. Aerith from FFVII is an obvious answer; Zack from Before Crisis, although already known, is still gut-wrenching. Sgt Johnson's death also blew my mind

But I have to say that the most devastating death of all is the Companion Cube. ToT

Aeris, Final Fantasy VII... so sad.
There was supposedly a way you could bring her back to life, I tried for days and days, it really was horrible.
I was shocked, I didn't even have her ultimate weapon yet either. Gutted!

EDIT: On reflection I was probably a bit harsh with my wording...
Are you done?
No not really, and if I was replyng to me won't help matters....

No, I didn't like the story because it was all round depressing & no I didn't get very far into the SECOND (not much of an improvement I know) disc. I gave up on the game because most of my time "playing" the game was beset with cut scene after cut scene after cut.... Most of which just kept detaching me further from the game. The more I found the characters moaning about something the more I wanted to see them die horribly.
Ugh, you seriouly went into a JRPG made by Mistwalker NOT expected a host of cut-scenes? Besides which, these games do immersion differently to WRPG's, but I'm not going to bother going into that because it has nothing to do with your initial whine. However, I honestly fail to see how you can like Dragon Age : Origins and then complain about Lost Odyssey's cut-scenes both are similar bar each has their representative take on dialogue. And really now, "I wanted to see them die horribly" - again, grow up.

As for the it's setting, I felt as thugh none of it was dragging me in. Immersion is one of the most important things me when it comes to playing games & I found myself not caring about anyone or anything in this world. I didnt care about who was fighting who & as far as I can remember at this time wasn't told
Well yes, a game with 4 disks isn't likely to give away it's entire plot within the first disk now is it...? The immersion point is subjective, but that's not what your OP said, but regardless, the game is certainly not "emo".

In my OP I stated this was my attempt to give them a shot. I played this game with an open mind towards the gameplay because I wanted to see what i was missing out on but couldn't get into it because the "art" of the game.
Sounds to me like you couldn't get into it because it went beyond the status quo.
Exactly guy, your opinion is wrong!

*ahem* Chill. He didn't like the game, and gave reasons for it. He didn't like the melodramatic whining. Don't have a go at him just because you liked the game. If he doesn't like the game, then that's it. DISCUSSION OVER. He gave his reasons for not liking the game, and you can't accept them. What the hell?

On-topic:
When Petruccio (your 12 year old sick brother) is hanged. I was like "No... I'll save him. They won't kill my little brother. OH FUCK!"

The "death" of Agro at the end of Shadow of Colossus is literally the only death in a game that brought me to tears. Such a great and powerful companion, and such a shocking and unexpected death...damn, that was an AWESOME game.

Oh god, me too. HL2 has the most compelling story I have seen yet.

As for Ghost and Roach, I felt nothing. I honestly didn't care at all. Now, if Gaz died, that would suck, as he was in CoD4.
What about Captain Price? I'm pretty sure he was in almost every single freaking Call of Duty game since the first and I'm pretty sure he died in almost all of them as well. How he died and came back so many times and went from the 1940's to the present makes hardly any sense at all to me.
His moustache has magical powers.

Granted, if I were really traditional, I'd probably be talking Planetfall [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planetfall#Reaction].
Floyd here now! Planetfall certainly gets my vote. It was my first exposure to NPC death in a computer game.

I never get sad by deaths in a game, probably because i rarely play games that involve death. I prefer the softer games.
