Most tedious sidequest?

In your opinion... what is the most tedious sidequest you've ever undertaken? Something that really made you yawn in the middle and made you think 'Did they really think this is fun'?

I'm in the process of trying to complete the figurine collection in Zelda - The Minish Cap and, God, it gets frustrating when you still need about 30 of them to complete the whole set but the trading item with which you get them (Mysterious Shells) are only obtainable through hacking and slashing your way through grass, rocks, bushes or you can buy them 30 a piece for 300 Rupees.

And you need about 30 of them to get a 50% chance of getting a new figurine. *sigh*

Though I've heard that the figurine collection sidequest in Wind Waker is even more tedious. I dread to start it.

MMO's win my most tedious side quest award.

Although it's hard to pick just one.

There is the ever so popular and over used "collect 10 pig nipples" or variants thereof because those never get old.

Escort quests ... loooong escort quests. They always walk slow as feth like someone replaced their nice leather boots with solid granite. They have a habit of running right into a pack of mobs. They take the longest route possible .... it's scenic, they must like the view.

Those are my 2 most tedious quests.

Oh god, the Wind Waker figurine quest is the worst. You take your camera and take a picture of any enemy or NPC and then take it to a guy who makes a statue of it. That's fine, except your camera has a capacity of three photos and you have to play the sun's song twice between each photo you return. There are well over 100 statues and I think the boss ones are even missable. Plus the sculptor guy is a little off the beaten path as well. I don't even think there's a reward past just looking at the damn statues.

I'd also vote for the family feud chain of quests in Borderlands 2. Tired cliches argue with each other and force you to go back and forth across the damn world like eight times before eventually rewarding you with a crappy pistol you immediately sell.

Recently, probably the Theives Guild sidequests to improve the guild.

You need to do 5 in each major city, excluding Riften, for each upgrade, which is fine, but the city is random each time.

So many quickloads...

while pretty much every quest in DA2 was terrible, the one where i had to watch avaline fumble about in her attempts to ask some no name NPC out on a date was without a doubt one of the worst gaming experiences of my life.

it was the shit cherry on top of a mountain range of dog crap.

Out of all the games I've played: FFX and the stuff you need to do to get everybody's celestial weapon.

Dodge a couple hundred lightning bolts in a row without getting hit once. Or play a buttload of blitzball. Or do a buttload of chocobo racing.

Pretty much all of them are tedious, frustrating or both.

Did you flirt with her the entire time? It's much more amusing while watching Hawke get shot down at every turn.

OT: I'm gonna go ahead and second the figurine side quests in WW and Minish Cap. Also, kinstone fusing, also in Minish Cap.

You only need to do the chocobo race once , just need to finish the race with 0 seconds on the clock . Now capturing every enemy in every area to access secret boses , THAT was tedious .

OT: every collectable item quest ever . The worst for me was PoP 2008 , because it was required to move foward in the game.

Oh dear god the lightning bolts. I've done it, but I'll never recover from that. There's a small part of my brain that's still sitting in the corner cutting itself and crying. Chocobo race isn't too bad, it' just luck based / as long as you avoid the birds you /should/ be okay. Aurons Crest which came from getting all the monsters was pretty tedious, but at least you didn't have to concentrate, just move the stick around and hold X.

Blitzball on the other hand I love, although that seems to be restricted to me and my mate, we'd spend aaages sitting there taking turns in playing blitzball. We were both heartbroken when they turned it into a crummy manager game in X-2

I'd love to see it made into a full fledged game to be honest, had great fun with Blitzball. Obviously it'd need to be fleshed out and changed a bit for multiplayer to work with it, but I think it'd be a great spin off game.

Firewalker DLC in Mass Effect 2, anyone?
The only series of missions that I couldn't get through because of how tedious they were.

The "collect x" variety.
Especially so if they happen to be well hidden and placed around the entirety of the gameworld.
The reward is rarely ever worth the effort invested.

Just Cause 2. Those formulaic military invasion missions. About as entertaining as brushing my teeth every day. How you manage to make destruction boring, I'll never know...

Final Fantasy 7 chocobo breeding. Tedious, unnecessarily complicated and boring.

Now I'm ashamed that I had (nearly) all of them...

OT: Id say fetch quest in general are pretty tedious, but I remember some of the Demon Doors in Fable (especially TLC) had great rewards but some of the most fucked up requirements to open them.

Honestly? The entirety of Bioshock gets my most tedious sidequest award. Yes, I know, the circuitous routes aren't technically sidequests, but when you have to approach a door, which then caves in, and have to spend forty-five minutes trekking in the opposite direction to get the appropriate plasmid to open the goddamn door, it sure as hell feels like a sidequest. I love that game, but holy hell, I could not play it through more than once. Once Infinite comes out, I'll probably play my way through all three of them again, but for now, I'm content in the knowledge that I never have to.

I fucking LOVED Blitzball. Every time I play through that game, immediately after finishing the Djose temple, (because the only decent keeper I can find to recruit early on is Kyou, outside of there), I always wind up playing through several seasons of Blitzball. I mean, I had all the useful shit you can get from it obtained once, (Wakka's overdrive modes, celestial items, etc)., and I still kept playing. Don't know what it is about that game, but I loved it, and was equally heartbroken with the shit that it became in X-2. If the HD re-release ever sees the light of day, that goddamn game better be in it.
