When i was little, Dinosaur Hunter scared the hell out of me. I hated that game, with a passion. I kept playing it though because when i wasnt getting jumped and ripped to pieces from behind by a velociraptor, it was great fun shooting little innocent dinosaurs.
That game gave me nightmares more than any modern game.

Ok, anybody not saying Silent Hill clearly hasn't played any Silent Hill games. My advice is, play any one of them and it will dwarf any of the non-silent hill games so much that you'll think its probably a Noddy game.
I want to say F.E.A.R. because even though I knew when Alma would pop out of nowhere, it still scared the heck out of me and never failed to send a icy cold shiver down my spine even after having played it through a couple times.
But then again, games like the Silent Hill series I haven't even bothered trying because what I hear about it just makes it way too scary for me, and I just don't think I would be able to handle it.

Although not given good reviews as a game(I thought it was great,mind you!), the First Blair Witch game Blair Witch: Rustin Parr,was the scariest game I ever played! Everything about it was dark and moody, and unlike games like resident Evil, it didn't throw 100's of zombies at you! It did things like having you walk down a small town's main street, at night, in a thunderstorm, with a small torch, trying to find the thing that ran out of your hotel room after searching for something!
Because the game didn't get good reviews (high 70's mostly) youcan pick it up cheap on ebay. I, for one, can heartily recommend it. I have been a PC gamer (not a console gamer at all!) for 20 plus years, with a collection of 500+ PC games, so I feel I know what I am talking about!

Either the first two silent hills or Eternal Darkness. I freaked out when my head exploded and went catotonic for about 5 minutes when it said my mem card was corrupted.
When I was a kid I was scared by original Resident Evil but even more so by Silent Hill 1 and 2. Especially the first Silent Hill game when the little kids in the school would come and bite your crotch. Then you would have to beat them with an iron pipe. Now though, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of The Earth was pretty scary when you think of it. You are constantly hallucinating, and you can be killed real easily, you don't have weapons for a good portion of the game as well as the difficulty of having to sneak everywhere and some ridiculous timed puzzle where you have to run and bolt 2 doors and move a dresser only to have to close and bolt 3 more doors and then move another dresser in front of a door and then move another dresser only to jump out of a window, all while trying not to get shot. But the most terrifying game has to be System Shock 2.
